BIKSEAT
Researchers at Bik Invent
Projects, a cooperation with
Turkish Technic, have found that
80% of all people experience
back pain at some point in
their lives, with symptoms most
commonly beginning during the
40-45 age range – a common age
range for passengers, with many also
being older.
The company has a solution to
making economy travel more
back-friendly, which is not just an
ergonomic seat design as one might
expect, but a bold concept that
proposes increasing under-seat
stowage space to enable the
removal of the overhead stowage
compartments.
By moving stowage to floor
level, passengers would not
have to lift baggage above
body height to place it in
the overhead stowage – a
movement which has been identified
as a potential cause of damage to
passengers’ shoulders, back, lower
back, muscles and skeleton.
Each BikSEAT features a lockable
stowage compartment, with passengers
using the locker under the seat in
front. The seat is elevated to create the
required space, which also increases
knee space by 2-4in. Passengers can
also customise the seat to suit their
body using the adjustable foot platform,
which has up to three different height
settings to help improve comfort and
circulation.
There are of course advantages to
removing overhead lockers, including
a more spacious cabin aesthetic, faster
boarding and deplaning, a large weight
reduction and, because the stowage
compartments lock automatically
during TTL, passengers cannot remove
their luggage in the case of an
emergency landing.
JHAS looks to
grow its market share
JHAS, an Italian seating and interiors
company, has signed a partnership
agreement with FL Technics, to sell
and promote its range of economy,
business and first class seats.
FL Technics is broadening its global
reach and has started growing its
operations in the Asia Pacific region
and China. To help achieve this
goal, FL Technics has created a joint
venture in China, opened a warehouse
in Singapore and expanded MRO
activities in Indonesia by gaining
an FAA Part-145 certificate for its
subsidiary, FL Technics Indonesia.
JHAS has also entered into a
partnership agreement with TTA
(Tecno Tessile Adler), another Italybased
producer of aeronautical
products. The agreement will see
the two companies jointly design
JHAS boasts
a prototype
assembly line at
its headquarters
and produce a new range
of aircraft seats, spanning
economy, premium economy,
business and first class.
The staff at JHAS’s HQ in
Latina can handle design, styling,
certification and production, with
the R&D department boasting
instrumentation for analysis
and simulation (FEM, 3D virtual
simulator) and a prototype
assembly line.
Meanwhile TTA has a
43,000ft2 factory in Airola
and 350 employees, and
offers design, engineering,
development and assembly
of aerostructures in metallic
materials (Al-Ti-Mg) or
composite materials for
aerospace OEMs.
