INTERIORS FASTENERS
Another area of significant advancement in aerospace
fasteners is not to do with tightening connections, but
rather in developing their ease of removal. Phillips Screw
Company is one supplier working in this field, and indeed
it has developed advanced drive fasteners systems such
as the AS6305 Mortorq spiral drive model.
The company says it is seeing increased usage of
the AS6305 since its initial application on the B787.
Dreamliner operators using these fasteners have
reported that when the removal and reinstallation of
floorboards for major checks was required, the fasteners
made the process simple, with reduced component
damage and faster turnaround compared with some
other fastener types.

HOOK AND LOOP
INNOVATION
Technical hook-and-loop manufacturer, Gottlieb
Binder has launched a thin lightweight fastener
system named Pressogri. The system is claimed to
be around 16-20% lighter than conventional hookand
loop fasteners and can be supplied in any
width right up to its maximum 1,500mm – this also
applies to Velour FR, the self-adhesive version of
the system. Both variants can be used as a direct
replacement for existing hook-and-loop systems, for
applications such as removable seat covers as well
as for panels and hard seatback fixings.
The company has also developed Duotec 50 FR, a
fastener for next-generation aircraft interiors. This
strong, fire retardant, single-component fastener
provides an invisible fixing inside the cabin and can
be used in place of a multitude of traditional metal
fixings. As this fastener does not require any tools to
be installed, interiors can be manufactured quicker
without compromising safety and quality of finish.
