Buzz’s view
“We believe that it’s time
to elevate the sustainability
conversation from commodity to
luxury, by partnering with brands
who share the same vision. Our focus
is on ‘conscious luxury’ – world-leading brands
dedicated to creating luxury sustainably,” says Simon
Yaffe, director of client relationships at Buzz about
the company’s efforts in sustainable amenities.
He adds that creating products that are coveted
and valued is not just great for the inflight passenger
experience, but also greener as they will then be reused
many times after the journey.
“We also work with specialists across the globe to
bring innovative, sustainable materials and processes
to our clients. Using repurposed materials such as
recycled plastic bottles in our ecoThread blankets has
helped redirect 100 million bottles from landfill. Buzz
works with our partners to design-out excess waste,
create products that last longer, and then recover and
regenerate products and materials at the end of life,”
adds Yaffe.
INFLIGHT AMENITIES
Delta is continuing its partnership with business, accessory and
travel lifestyle brand, Tumi, which has been supplying travel kits for
Delta premium customers since 2013. With its latest kits, customers
may notice something is missing: a plastic wrapper.
Kit supplier, Buzz has made simple enhancements that remove
plastic bags from the Tumi kits, as a result of which the airline
expects to divert 14,039kg (30,951 lbs) of plastic from landfills in
just one year – equivalent to the weight of one Delta CRJ-200 jet.
CLEANER, GREENER
BLANKETS
EVA Air’s innovative ecoThread blankets are made
entirely from recycled plastic drinking bottles.
The ecoThread programme, in conjunction with
Buzz, is claimed to be the biggest sustainability
programme in the onboard airline industry and
to date has transformed over 100 million bottles
into soft, warm blankets.
ETIHAD EARTH
DAY AMENITIES
TUMI TO YOU
To celebrate Earth Day, Etihad operated the first
long-haul flight free of single-use plastics. In
support, Buzz created a variety of amenity items
using sustainable materials, including jute
drawstring bags, wheatstraw toothbrushes, and
socks and eyemasks made from recycled plastic
bottles. ecoThread blankets made from 100%
recycled plastic bottles were also provided, while
kids on board were given ecoLittle plush toys
and blankets made using recycled materials.
