hile the interior finishes and
workmanship in today’s
business aircraft are of the
quality expected of luxury products,
Aerofoam Industries believes that not
every part of the interior has advanced to
this level. “The cushioning materials used
for club chairs, divans, mattresses and
other areas – the parts of the aircraft that
passengers are most intimate with – are
substantially lacking,” says Nathan
Barrett, sales and marketing executive at
Aerofoam. “Business jet customers are
accustomed to the luxurious comfort of
high-end cars. They sleep on the highest
grade of mattresses on the ground and
should be treated to a similar level of
comfort in the air.”
Aerofoam has designed its Comfort
series of graphite-filled foam materials
to provide this level of comfort while
saving weight and cost. The foams were
developed and refined specifically for
the aviation market over the last decade;
they have been tried and tested on
commercial aircraft.
THE RANGE
The Comfort series includes four grades
of graphite-filled foams and two grades
of graphite-filled visco-elastic memory
foams. “The two memory grades are the
lightest and most durable memory foams
available in the aviation market,” says
Barrett. “With an Aerofoam memory
foam, mattresses, pillows and even
decorative components can have an
extraordinary level of comfort while
retaining a jet’s airworthiness.”
The Comfort foams are used in
cushions for seat models made by
leading manufacturers including Collins
Aerospace, Lift by Encore, Recaro, Safran
Seats and Thompson Seating, and are
flying on aircraft ranging from regional
to long-haul jets. “One of the world’s

“Having our seating system selected
by some of the world’s leading airlines
requires precise engineering and
attention to detail,” comments Barrett.
“These demanding customers expect
an unmatched level of seat comfort and
these foam materials enable us to
provide that to them.”
In a July 2019 review of a Delta Air Line
flight featuring the memory foam seat,
The Points Guy senior editor Darren
Murph wrote: “One thing worth lauding is
the memory foam seat. I’d read about
this in advance of the plane’s debut, but
sitting in it for over 11 hours was even
better than imagined. This is, in two
words, a game-changer.”
“Graphite-filled foams are a great
source of comfort, heat dissipation and
will help you achieve weight reduction in
the cabin,” concludes Barrett. “In addition,
Aerofoam Comfort foams are inherently
flame-retardant and do not require any
additional fire-blocking layers to be
compliant with aviation regulations.”
longest commercial flights is flying with
the foams,” says Barrett. “The materials
have been proven to stand the test of
time and retain their comfort for years in
first-class seats and even economy
models, which frequently take a beating.”
