s it possible for business jet
interiors to have both a
luxurious feel and durability?
Tapis says that thanks to recent
advances in materials technology, and
new muted hues that blend perfectly
with the business jet palette, the
unequivocal answer is yes.
“Long used in the upper half of the
cabin, high-performance synthetics are
challenging leather and fabrics in the
high-wear applications they have
traditionally dominated – such as the
lower sidewalls and seat covers,”
says Jason Estes, VP of global
sales and marketing at Tapis.
The company’s textiles
include Tottori, Ultratech Wired
and Brisa Mokume. “The
durability of these textiles is
paired with their sustainability,
adding to their attractiveness,”
says Estes. “Just ask the most
innovative electric vehicle OEMs,
which are increasingly choosing highperformance
textiles by Ultrafabrics,
rather than leather, achieving a luxurious
yet durable automotive interior.”
LIGHT RELIEF
Tapis says its products are much lighter
in weight than traditional materials such
as leather, which can have a meaningful
effect on aircraft performance and fuel
consumption – reducing the carbon
footprint of each aircraft.
Tottori was inspired by nature, and in
particular the windswept landscape of
the Tottori sand dunes in Japan. It was
developed to meet designers’ demands
for a high-performing, animal-free
alternative while delivering a stylish
rendition of a timeless, leather-like grain.

“In the demanding business jet
industry, luxury and performance are
increasingly being met with innovation in
interior materials,” says Estes. “Whether
the goal is to create a more welcoming
environment and experience or improved
performance, Tapis products are meeting
and exceeding expectations by offering
a combination of style, comfort and
durability in an eco-friendly package.”
