BLACK IS THE NEW BLACK
Muted greys and tans have been a safe
solution for aircraft interior finishes for
decades, and for good reason: neutral
colours stand the test of time and are
easily matched to the rest of the interior.
But plating specialist High Tech Finishing
says designers are increasingly looking to
embrace bolder colours.
One operator came to the company
with an idea to capitalize on this trend.
They wanted to stand out from the pack
with plating in a colour not used by
others. After much research, High Tech
Finishing suggested a new, intentionally
whimsical colour that it liked so much it
added it to its permanent array of options.
The colour, Pitch Black Stardust, has
a base of black with multicolour sparkles
that catch the light. “When applied to
interior parts, the colour creates a
a void in the market for a dark finish
that doesn’t create reflections. It is
designed to make a bold statement,
but in a unique, subtle way.
“Utilizing information from
international designers on the latest
colours and textures, we proudly
introduced two new colours to expand
our customers’ available palette beyond
greys and tans,” says Niefield. “We
believe this forward-thinking approach
helps advance the industry toward
embracing trends and options that may
not fit the traditional mould of the
business aviation industry.”
INVISIBLE LUXURY
VIP aircraft are equipped with the most
comfortable seats and beds, top-quality
materials and fabrics, and the latest IFE
and connectivity. “This sounds like it
meets everyone’s expectations, but what
about well-being and sensory experience,
the things that we do not see but that
will certainly affect us?” asks Peter
Landquist, vice president of sales and
marketing at CTT Systems. “Intangible
things like temperature, clean air,
vibration, noise, cabin altitude and
humidity have a great impact on our
well-being and sensory experience.”
Landquist says aircraft OEMs are
constantly improving these intangibles,
but there is one area lagging behind –
cabin humidity. “Dry cabin air is a wellknown
problem on long-haul airline

dehydration and has a very negative
effect on passenger comfort and
well-being,” he adds.
CTT Systems provides an inflight
humidification system to address this.
“The system’s reliability and performance
has been proven for most types of VIP
aircraft,” says Landquist. “With a CTT
humidifier on board, the cabin climate is
restored, thus the passenger will feel
better, sleep better, taste more flavours

For operators desiring a less dazzling
solution that still capitalizes on the trend
for dark finishes, the company also
recently introduced Pitch Black Soft
Velvet. This colour was crafted to fill
flights and it is even
worse in a VIP cabin,”
he says. “The only
contributors to cabin
humidity during cruise
are the passengers
themselves. Breathing
normally, each one emits
an average of 70g (2.5oz)
of water per hour. This means
that passengers seated in less dense
cabin areas – like business and first class
– are exposed to an extremely low level
of 5-10% relative humidity, well below the
comfortable level of 20-50%.”
Due to the low passenger load on
a VIP aircraft, the cabin humidity can
be between 2-4%, adds Landquist.
“This depleted level causes extreme
