Lighter, leaner battery pack design
For decades, Gore experts’
material science expertise and
the automotive industry have
combined, paving the way for the
vehicles of the future.
The latest development, the
Gore Low Pressure Evacuation
Vent for Battery Packs, enables
fl exibility when designing the
battery packs for EV and plug-in
hybrid vehicles.
The new Gore Automotive
Vent integrates three protection
functions into one product. The
fl exible membrane supports a very
low opening pressure inside the
battery pack and has an overpressure
bypass function that
remains reversible, ensuring prompt
relief of pressure differentials
in normal and severe operating
conditions, which can deform
lightweight housings and cause
even rugged seals to fail.
Additionally, the reversible
bypass function manages overpressures
associated with thermal
runaway of a single cell or module,
and then continues to protect
battery components, which also
minimizes the potential for thermal
propagation.
Finally, the new technology
upholds Gore’s reputation as a
leader in reliability and durability,
delivering critical protection against
the intrusion of water, dirt and dust.
The new Gore Automotive Vent
means that designers will now be
able to develop lighter, leaner
and potentially more reliable
battery packs.

Combined Charging System control
As a result of the combination
of hardware, platform software,
and Simulink-based application
software, Pi Innovo offers M560
and M580 OpenECU hardware
and software with CCS, based on
the proven OpenECU Functional
Safety (OpenECU-FS) platform.
The OpenECU platform enables
customers to rapidly deploy CCS
controls from prototyping to
production.
M560 and M580 both have
a Powerline Communication
(PLC) transceiver for digital
communication, required for fast
DC charging. The controllers
support AC, DC, and Combined
charging, for Type 1 and Type 2
inlets. Standards supported at
the physical layer include SAE
J1772, IEC 62196-3, GB and
CHAdeMO. OpenECU platform
software also includes support
for standards such as SAE J2847
and DIN 70121 from the data link
layer up to the application layer.
For ISO 15118, customers should
contact Pi Innovo. For a complete
CCS solution, Pi Innovo also
offers the full application source
code required to execute charging
sessions as open and accessible
Simulink blocks. Functionalities
include (but are not limited to)
input signal processing,
control pilot signaling, and
sequence controller.
By using the OpenECU
modules, M560/M580
customers can integrate and
consolidate CCS with supervisory
control, leading to signifi cant cost
and space optimization.
