The Court Church of All Saints at the
Munich Residenz – the former royal
palace – was the setting for the
presentation of this year’s Bauma
Innovation Awards, celebrating the
leading technologies and products in
the construction industry and marking
the start of Bauma Munich 2019.
Winning in the Research/Science
category, TU München (Technical
University of Munich) impressed the
jury of industry leaders and
journalists with its augmented reality
vehicle control concept that uses
mixed reality data glasses to
superimpose 3D models over
real-life landscapes and objects.
Developed in partnership with
Holo-Light, MTS, Vemcon and
Fritzmeier Cabs, the Driver Guidance
4.0 system concept shows how such
technology could in the future create
more efficient working methods,
avoiding mistakes and reducing
machine downtime.
Moba’s Pave-TM Layer Thickness
Measurement topped the Component/
Digital Systems category. Relying
on a new CSMT-300 ultrasonic
sensor, the system is capable of
automatically measuring the
thickness of laid asphalt on roads,
reducing the need for manual
work. With the thickness level
viewable at any time, the system
minimizes wasted material –
saving over €1,000 (US$1,130) per
km in construction costs – as well
as creating better quality, more
durable roads.
Liebherr’s INTUSI (Intuitive
User Interface) took the design
category award, while the
Machinery category winner was
Herrenknecht’s clever E-Power
Pipe boring machine and the
Construction Work/Construction
Process/Construction Method
award went to Max Bogl Stiftung
& Co for its Hybrid Towers mobile
fabrication unit.
