career has come
full circle since his
student days at
Glasgow Art
School, where his
beloved cars were
deemed an insufficiently
serious subject, so that he instead
designed dumper trucks. After
achieving a Masters degree in
Automotive Design, Wilkie spent
five years in Paris at Peugeot-
Citroen, learning the nuts and bolts
of his trade. But, having long been
inspired by the iconic designs of
Pininfarina, he moved the home of
automotive design in Torino, Italy.
Here he worked for Ghia,
developing concept cars for Ford
over a 15-year period, before
moving to
Bertone, where he
produced designs
for Lamborghini
and Ferrari. Restless
for adventure, Wilkie
pushed off from Italy for
Switzerland, where he spent some
time working in the nascent
electromobility sector, before getting
a call from CNH Industrial in 2014
and returning once more to Torino
to take up his current role.
In a sense, this meant striking
out again for a new realm of
industrial design, but also returning
to the construction equipment
avidly sketched in his distant
Glaswegian youth – while also
bringing with him the wisdom of
