Automatic enforcement
At present, Vitronic provides
its customers with extensive
features for automatic traffic
enforcement. In addition to
fixed speed enforcement
applications, mobile systems
which are embedded in tripods
or vehicles, support improved
traffic safety. One device has the
ability to monitor red trafficlight
phases at junctions while
simultaneously measuring
passing vehicle speeds. The
portfolio of traffic management
technology enables enforcement
of section control (point-topoint),
designated lane
monitoring, tailgating
enforcement, number plates,
speed enforcement while in
motion, tolling and much more.
At Intertraffic 2020, Vitronic
will present new solutions for
both toll collection and red-light
enforcement. The technology for
monitoring red-light offences is
based on comprehensive image
processing. An exceptionally
positive feature is that the slim
system has no requirements for
road-side installations. The redlight
camera rests on a separate
post alongside the traffic lights.
Installation is uncomplicated
and requires little maintenance.
Encrypted case file transferring
is sent out electronically.
AI tolling technologies
Vitronic’s solutions for the
tolling sector relies on artificial
intelligence to detect and
classify vehicles, combined
with powerful hardware, for
a reliable and robust database.
The system is able to recognize a
vehicle make, colour, and model
in all lighting and weather
conditions. Information about
all detected vehicle speeds can

In 2003 Vitronic introduced
lidar technology traffic systems
throughout Germany, a tolling
first. All previous solutions
required a minimum of two
gantries or cantilevered
structures with daylight
illumination at each checkpoint.
Vitronic’s solution not only
reduced costs for the operator
but also had a small
environmental footprint. With
this know-how, the company
presented a new generation
of speed enforcement systems
based on lidar technology.

The road safety crisis has
reached epidemic proportions
prompting governments to set
targets to significantly improve
road safety. As a result, Vitronic
installations are seen in cities
globally. In the Middle East &
Africa (MEA) region alone, over
6,000 German-standard traffic
monitoring systems are in use.
In the second half of 2019,
orders for more than 2,500
PoliScan systems were
registered. The order began in
different markets of MEA and
repeatedly demonstrated the
positive effects of these modern
traffic enforcement solutions.
The Kingdom of Morocco
has ordered more than 500
traffic monitoring systems to
implement into its road safety
strategy. This is in line with the
Vision Zero campaign, a
worldwide objective of reducing
road deaths to zero, to which
Vitronic is also committed.
The company continuously
adds value to its concepts for

speed measurement, red-light
monitoring, and road user
charging. This approach has
led to the Smart Traffic
Network. Already today,
stationary, semi-stationary
and mobile speed measurement
systems ensure compliance with
statutory speed limits.
The primary objective is to
use image processing solutions
to improve traffic safety and so
increase the quality of life within
a city. However, systems such as
those in the PoliScan family, do
not merely measure speed they
detect vehicle classes, red light
offences and monitor the correct
usage of designated lanes.
The same devices can also
be used to collect additional
information regarding traffic
flow within urban areas. This
includes, among other things,
the number of vehicles passing
through an area, the vehicle
class, average speeds, lanes
used and the direction of travel.
