Smart, user-friendly
VMS technology
The VMS dimming and
monitoring function will help
operators adjust the brightness
at different speeds in either
manual or automatic mode, with
the goal of minimizing power
consumption and light pollution.
Seewor’s built in light sensors
can detect the surrounding
environment luminance range
between 0 and 65,536 lux.
Operators can refresh the
system to get real time
brightness data on the
control software directly.
For any weather
Durability and stability are
always the priority for VMS
and heat dissipation is one of
the essential issues to avoid
malfunction especially in hot
conditions. Also when installed
near oceans or long rainy
seasons, heavy humidity may
influence the operation of VMS.
Seewor’s VMS has built
in temperature and humidity
sensors on the controller card.
The sensors can detect
temperature ranges from -50°C
to +70°C and humidity ranges
from 0% to 99%. While on the
Variable message signs
(VMS), also known as
changeable message signs
(CMS) or dynamic message
signs (DMS) are often used
on roadways to give travelers
with information about traffic
congestion, incidents, roadwork,
travel times, special events or
speed limits on the highway.
They may also recommend
alternative routes, public service
announcements and alerts.
The information is most
often displayed in real-time and
can be controlled either from a
remote centralized location or
locally on site.
VMS is commonly installed
on full-span overhead signs,
post-mounted on roadway
shoulders, or on overhead
cantilever structures.
Covering all bases
Being an important part of
Intelligent Transportation
Systems (ITS), nowadays, VMS
is required to not only be smart
and intelligent enough in
applications, but also easy and
efficient for operators to perform
maintenance. In this case, a
VMS monitoring system is a
must. Seewor has developed
a comprehensive and complete
monitoring system for VMS.

In the market, there are
different types of VMS. They
could be categorized into
character matrix, line matrix
or full matrix versions.
Small but significant
No matter what type of VMS,
LEDs are the main component
and also the smallest unit,
which means with over 50%
of VMS failure concerned with
LED problems makes it hard
to detect the one that is not
working properly.
How to effectively identify
failed LEDs becomes one of the
main technology differences
between competing VMS
manufacturers.
Seewor has developed
LED monitoring technology.
The driver chips work closely
with the LED’s printed circuit
board module making the
monitoring of failures faster
and more accurate.
The pixel monitoring is
done in real time but does
not interrupt or effect the

software interface, the operator
can easily find the general
temperature and humidity
status as well as detailed
temperature information
for each VMS cabinet.
Control software will start
to alarm and send a warning
message via email to the
operator when the VMS cabinet
reaches a pre-determined level.
For VMS installed in different
regions, weather and climates
are very different and so the
temperature warning value will
be set based on relevant settings.
Being a high value property,
every VMS has a door security
lock to prevent theft. However,
it is still necessary to have real
time monitoring when there
is unauthorized access or
accidental opening.
Seewor has door open
sensors installed on each
cabinet. The operator can even
locate the exact door opened on
the VMS. This helps operators
perform inspections or
maintenance in time.
