Simplifying weight
enforcement processing
Technology is meant
to facilitate our lives.
Nevertheless, sometimes
it offers such a broad range
of possibilities that, instead
of helping us, it contributes
to wasting the user’s time
and patience.
In order to avoid such
mistakes and to reinforce its
mission to provide efficient and
economical solutions for weight
enforcement, Haenni
Instruments will soon launch
the processing unit EC 120.
Light, robust, reliable and
with wireless communication
possibilities, the processing
unit is ideal for use in harsh
environments for those who
want an uncomplicated and
fast way to see, store and print
the loads measured by Haenni
scales with a digital interface.
The new device was
developed based on three key
aspects: an uncompromising
operation time, easy to operate
and being easily extendable
to support new Haenni scales
and user requirements.
Instead of a power
demanding color display,
the EC 120 has a monochrome
transflective LCD. But the power
consumption is only one aspect
that was taken into account:
color displays (LCD or OLED)
are emissive and, when viewed
under direct sunlight, have a
readability problem. A
transflective display uses
an external light source and
therefore, the readability
increases with sunlight. There
is also a backlight for use in
dark or poor lighting conditions.
Another important feature of
the EC 120 is its operating time
on a single battery charge.

> A monochrome, reflective

> The user interface is
intuitive and deliberately
kept simple
> The integrated printer can
print upto 48 characters
on each line
> Equipped with a GPS
receiver, time zones need
only be set once
configuration possibilities
via its user interface were
deliberately kept to a minimum.
In spite of this, it is possible to
adapt and tweak many aspects
of the EC 120. The language of
the user interface can be easily
changed by adding a JSON
formatted text file to the
memory card of the device.
The measurements are stored as
JSON formatted text files as well
and makes it easy to import the
position in the protocol. The
GPS features automatic time
synchronization capabilities, so
the user has to set the time zone
only once.
The data saved is protected
against manipulation and, if
wished, the GPS can also be
turned off.
The measured weights
are stored on the SD card
and secured in accordance
with calibration regulations.
The device will be at a later
date submitted for European
Type Approval, which will
certainly help it to obtain the
national approvals for use all
over the world and also gives
the guarantee that it is protected
against fraud. Although this
will not happen with the
preliminary firmware version,
as soon as a new firmware is
ready, the primary version

data in other programs. The
configuration of the printout
is simple and the boot image
can, when desired, be changed.
The same applies to images
on the protocol.
User-friendly configuration
Another highlight is the use of
a Unicode font which supports
any language with the printout
ready to be configured in any
format. The 58 mm integrated
thermal printer allows for
printing on each line up to 24
characters with the standard
font size and up to 48 characters
with the smaller font size.
In addition, deductions and
customer-specific queries such
as the test officer, measuring
station, or additional text fields
and lists can be defined. Each
customer can therefore adapt
the device to their needs and
local conditions and legislation.
As an ultimate innovation,
a GPS receiver is installed in
the device.
In a future firmware version
it will be possible to use the
