Drone Technology
AEROSPACETESTINGINTERNATIONAL.COM // SEPTEMBER 2019 69
As the use of drones
continues to expand
there is growing
evidence that they are
becoming a hindrance to other aviation services
and that the risk of mid-air collisions is
increasing. The incursion of drones into
restricted airspace has closed airports including
London Gatwick Airport in December 2018 and
more recently, during May this year, Frankfurt
Airport in Germany. In an effort to address these
challenges, airports, law enforcement agencies
and militaries around the world are devoting
more attention to the development of strategies
and technologies that capture drones or control
their flight patterns. The solutions being
developed to capture and restrict drone flights
range from the use of rapidly deployable nets and
trained eagles to communications jamming
technologies managed by air traffic control.
