EVENTS Steve Harris - Nuvias
“We’ve evolved as a company but what has stuck is the three things that we try and do:
innovate, enable and support” Nuvias UC CEO Steve Harris
Growing through collaboration
Speaking at the Nuvias Diversify event, CEO of the UC division Steve Harris talks through his view of the market
and the distributor’s work with Dropbox
Growth is naturally
important in the current
climate. Johnson might
be behind the big black
door again, but uncertain
aects of Brexit are yet to
manifest themselves.
I don’t need to wae on
about the dierent ways to go
about it but listening to Nuvias
UC CEO Steve Harris, it is
clear that the long-founded
partnering mentality that exists
within the industry is at the
core of the distributor’s model.
Speaking at the Diversify
by Nuvius event in London
last year, Harris said that such
events can help the industry
nd a USP.
“It’s our job to run these
sessions and the key point is
that we try and help service
providers monetise new
revenue.
Everybody in this business
is struggling to maintain
relevance. ese events aim to
give partners the platform to
understand a bit more about
how they can drive innovation
and make money.”
Harris went on to emphasise
the importance of partnerships
to Nuvias adding that they
are open to working with
alternative business models to
the traditional CAPEX.
“What we’re trying to do
is work with you to deploy
these technologies. Delivering
services from our side has
always been in our DNA.
We started this business as
a systems integrator with a
distribution plan and we really
want to work in partnership
with our customers to look
at how we deploy these
technologies, not just sell
them.
I get asked about MSPs,
CSPs, service providers,
MVNOs and we see a massive
blurring of the lines between
IT, telecoms and infrastructure.
What we have got to make sure
we think about is how relevant
we are.
We have got to make
sure that, whilst we are UC
providers, we know how to
branch into other technologies
areas, whether its connectivity,
whether its infrastructure as a
service, whether it genuinely is
content.”
Held at e Eight Members
Club in London, Nuvias
launched the ‘Diversify’
programme to service
providers and the event
featured presentations from
Cisco, Drobox, Poly and 128
Technology that talked through
their latest respective products
and solutions. Matt Townend
from Cavell Group was also on
hand to share his view of the
market.
One of the themes of the
event was ‘collaboration’. By
no means a new term, however
it can come in new forms
and, certainly, Dropbox will
advocate that working together
on documents is the way the
market is going.
Harris went on to use
Nuvias as an example of how
businesses are now seeing that
new form of collaboration.
“A lot of people talk about
collaboration and for telecoms
and voice people collaboration
probably means video. We
think it’s more than that.
at’s why one of the things
that we do with Dropbox is
look at how you add genuine
collaboration and also add
content. We certainly used
Dropbox when we started our
business, but we weren’t a paid
user until three or four years
down the line when we had
about 30 users.
We pay the bill every month
and don’t even think about it.
We use it extensively within
our business and there are a lot
of people out there that are on
that curve.”
Working with Dropbox is the
rst step for Nuvias in building
out its Cloud oering.
Nuvias used the Diversify
event to talk to service
providers around the trends
and evolution of the industry
and how they need to be agile
and adapt with the support of
Nuvias UC.
Being a part of ‘Diversify
by Nuvias UC’ gives service
providers access to a range
of unique benets including
pre-sale consultancy, lifetime
warrenty and technical support.
e Nuvias UC CEO went
on to give an update on where
he sees the distributor in the
market as well as emphasise the
need for collaboration.
“We’ve evolved as a company
but what has stuck is the three
things that we try and do:
innovate, enable and support.
is, we think, is important
for enterprise. We try and look
at ourselves as an extension of
your product management or
leasing. We really augment it,
not by doing anything better,
but by doing things faster.
If we can help you innovate,
get to market, deploy, and give
you support to make sure you’re
successful, you can genuinely
build long term repeatable
revenues. at’s where we think
we’re dierent compared to
other business and I think it’s
even more important today
that we genuinely collaborate
together.”
