The Fundamentals
THE MARKETS HAVE taken an
absolute beating of late as
the fallout from the COVID-19
pandemic continues. This
month has seen somewhat of a
rebound in the telecoms sector
as the likes of Gamma sprung
back to pre-crisis levels. But
how long will it last?
Elsewhere it is not a pretty
sight. Richard Branson has put
Necker Island up as collateral
to try and secure a $500m loan
to bail out his airline business.
We have even seen negative oil
prices in the US for the fi rst time
in living memory. Oil producers
are literally paying buyers
to take oil away as concerns
grow around the ability to store
surplus supplies.

The Channel has gone from
a whirlwind of activity to a
quiet meandering trickle as
businesses get themselves set
up for home working.
Several retailers are
already starting to slip into
administration despite
Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s
measures, more may follow.
There are already mutterings
of the ‘bounce back’ later this
year. But will the Channel be
the same place? New business
has fallen off a cliff, pipelines
will take time to rebuild, all
businesses will be running
leaner with the taste of UC&C in
their mouths.
I can already feel a sector of
salespeople pulling at the leash.
