FROM THE EDITOR
Early signs
Finally, we are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. As I write I am watching Boris
Johnson announce that pubs, restaurants, hotels and hairdressers will be opening from
the 4th July. e ease in restrictions is the rst signs of recovery and are certainly a
welcome relief. e next challenge for a lot of these businesses will be how do they
actually operate with social distancing measures in place?
I am getting mixed reports about how busy the Channel is as we head into July. As
customers start coming back on line we may see a large number of sales sta return from
furlough in order to start greasing the business wheels with incoming cash.
ere is much speculation about what type of world the Channel is coming back to, and what those
partners will look like themselves. Businesses are asking themselves questions which they haven’t done
previously regarding the technology they need. I also suspect the fear factor that many business owners
had when choosing technology will have been diminished. ey have already faced one of their biggest
challenges by getting themselves set up for remote working. Making technology decisions at this point
wont come with the same fear and although we will unfortunately see a big rise in unemployment come
October, my bet is technology spending will also be up.
is month has been a busy one for the Comms Business Team. Our digital portfolio has been
particularly well supported by the market. I am especially excited about the Road to Recovery initiative
currently underway. No one knows for sure what the path to recovery is going to look like, but I think
we can all agree it is better we do it together as an industry. I hope you join us.
