building blocks to
partner success
It has been a busy few months for Simwood,
so Comms Business caught up with Founder CEO
Simon Woodhead in their lively Bristol office.

as it has, whilst the Sipcentric platform will
be offered through Simwood Partner. We
have the best architected, most user-friendly
hosted PBX platform in the market now,
and it is white-label by default. Partners are
selling their brand, not ours!
Moreover, they’re not locked into being our
reseller. You’d expect they’d have the option
to build their own platform and become a
Simwood Wholesale customer, but there’s
a third way now. Resellers can evolve from
running on a white-labelled instance of the
Sipcentric platform, to running their own,
with consequent shifting of economics. The
platform is also available as an appliance,
and of course we’re happy to provide hosting
and connectivity for that if they want us to.
This lets resellers grow into honestly saying
they have their own platform and potentially
their own network. Of course, as they’re able
to do this within Simwood, contract terms
and commitments can be viewed sensibly
and we’ll enthusiastically support evolution.”

Two acquisitions
At the beginning
of October, Simwood
announced completion
on two acquisitions
that mark a dramatic
shift in its positioning.
Historically Simwood has been a pure
wholesale operator, but occupying a
relatively unique niche. As Woodhead puts
it “We walk a thin and sometimes grey line
between those who simply switch minutes in
volume, with no value added, and being the
value-added enabler. Our hearts and values
have always been in the enablement rather
than the pure-play ‘stack it high, sell it cheap’
minute shops. We’ve attracted a smart
customer base that gets it and reflects this.
We’re hugely grateful and loyal to them all.
However, the downside of being the enabler
is that, by definition, you can attract people
who need enabling, ergo, can be less able.
Some may be advanced in terms of sales,
marketing, and packaging but may lack the
engineering skills to build and operate the
technical platform that they’d need to be a
wholesale customer. We’ve needed a solution
to service these people, and complete a deep
customer upgrade path that lets them go
from concept through to total ownership,
with us helping in the right way at the right
time all along.
