Simwood Starts 2019 on a High with SimCon2
With over 200 active customers in 24 countries,
business units on two continents and
a distributed global team whose working day
spans 24 hours, 2018 was an amazing year for
Simwood, the innovative UK wholesale VoIP
provider headquartered in Bristol – and the
momentum continues.
SimCon2, a non-sales customer event
covering a broad base of current industry
key topics, was held in the Simwood’s Head
Office Conference suite in Bristol on the 7th
and 8th February.
With over 50 attendees and over 350
people watching streams on multiple
platforms over the course of the two-day
event, SimCon2 was a great success. On the
first evening, seven individual businesses
and people, nominated by their peers, were
recipients of the very first SimCon Awards
- Yay.com, CircleLoop, Dan Jenkins, Fred
Posner, Drachtio, Kamailio and Sangoma.
As Simwood’s CEO Simon Woodhead
explains, “The SimCon Awards are uniquely
designed to recognise the unsung heroes
of the open source community and
telecommunications industry. There are no
prescribed categories and a fundamental rule
and difference to other awards is that selfnominations
are prohibited!”
“We were really touched to have so many
attend the Conference and bring in some great
speakers from around the community. The
feedback was again really positive,” added
Simon. “We have some amazing customers that
we’re far closer to as a result and we’re proud
to be their go-to provider.”
Simwood: Still doing things differently
The Company continues to grow rapidly - by
50% in revenue (100% in operational terms).
With services including wholesale SIP trunking
(Numbering and Termination), Connectivity,
SD-WAN, VoxAP and Secured Voice via a
market leading API and a Global Network, CEO
Simon Woodhead is confident that 2019 will be
Simwood’s best year ever.
As Simon explains: “At Simwood, we are
proud of our track record of over 20 years
in industry firsts. We believe in continual
innovation to provide market leading services
and the very best service levels for our
customers, driven by a motivation to ‘make
things better’. We have always wanted to
be at the forefront of new thinking and new
developments, to shape the future rather just
than being an onlooker. That means we invest
hugely in in-house R&D.”
The new SD-WAN managed service
(software-defined wide area network),
delivered through an exclusive deal with a
global equipment leader, will enable Simwood
to control the quality of service and security
over the ‘last mile’, even for customers not
connected directly to their network.
Simwood is pitching SD-WAN connectivity
differently: to prioritise and guarantee voice
over data, and not just as an MPLS alternative.
“For too long, voice has been ignored in favour
of data and, as a consequence, quality has
suffered. We are going to change that, by
putting SD-WAN managed voice first, so that
voice communications can be higher quality,
more resilient and stable for those to whom
voice matters,” said Simon.
SD-WAN is a natural addition to the Simwood
service portfolio. Not only is it much quicker
to provision than MPLS, (as it will be managed
centrally by Simwood with minimal physical
configuration needed on each end-point), it
also allows the Company to deliver the best
possible performance and security provision
without compromise for customers across
their premises. Of course, SD-WAN as an MPLS
alternative is also possible and it can also
be coupled with connectivity of all flavours
available from Simwood.
VoxAP is a mobile VoIP client which will
deliver on Simwood’s key values of privacy,
encryption and security directly to end-users,
but via the channel. And, unlike a typical client,
VoxAP is as fast as any mobile to connect and
super-secure. It is available to beta testers on
iOS and Android.
Customers can provision end users via the
comprehensive Simwood API or via their portal
by simply scanning a QR code within VoxAP.
That means that code, or the trunk it relates
to, can be easily linked to customers and
their branding – in colours and logos - and the
wishes of any customer who wants to present
the entire experience as their own can also be
accommodated. ®End users can then make
outgoing calls and also receive all incoming
calls linked to that trunk. Simwood is working to
add a rich pipeline of disruptive new services to
the VoxAP platform.
