Solar power in the ascent
COMMUNITY solar power projects are being planned at New York’s JFK airport.
The New York State Public Service Commission has approved the Port Authority of New York
and New Jersey’s request to proceed with renewable solar power projects at John F Kennedy
International. These should help the agency in its challenge to meet its stringent greenhouse gas
emission reduction goals.
The Public Service Commission’s action will permit the Port Authority, in collaboration with the
New York Power Authority, to move forward with plans to create more than 10 megawatts of on-site
solar facilities at JFK. This array will include a five megawatt solar generation facility designed to
offer power at reduced rates to nearby communities.
Residents, particularly those in the poorer neighbourhoods, will be the first in line to access the
benefits of solar-generated renewable energy at a reduced rate.
Air Liquide looks to Canada
AIR Liquide has announced that it has acquired an 18.6% stake in the capital of the Canadian
company Hydrogenics Corporation, a leader in electrolysis hydrogen production equipment and fuel
cells. This strategic transaction, which represents an investment of US$20.5m, will enable the Group
to reaffirm its long-term commitment to the hydrogen energy markets and its ambition to be a major
player in the supply of carbon-free hydrogen, particularly for industry and mobility markets.
Convinced that hydrogen will play a key role in the energy transition, Air Liquide has been a
pioneer in the development of the hydrogen sector for several years. Air Liquide and Hydrogenics
have also entered into a technology and commercial agreement to jointly develop PEM (Proton
Exchange Membrane) electrolysis technologies for the rapidly growing hydrogen energy markets
around the world.
