AWilliston Basin International Airport in
North Dakota, USA is set to open his
month as the region’s current airport
Sloulin Field International, closes.
Williston Basin Airport has been built around
10 miles northwest of the city of Williston to
replace Sloulin Field, which is struggling to
meet local demand and cannot be further
expanded.
The new airport, which is expected to
open on October 10, has two runways
and a 100,000ft passenger terminal. The
site will also host a 51,000ft FBO and
general aviation facility that will include an executive
passenger terminal, pilot lounge and office
space and a heated hangar capable of
housing aircraft as large as the G650.
Construction of the airport
began in 2016, while work on the
new FBO and general aviation
facility began in May this year.
The airport will open with a
7,500ft by 150ft runway and
in the future will also have a
4,500ft by 75ft.
Overland Aviation currently
operates out of Sloulin Field
International Airport, providing
flight training, scenic flights and
aerial photography.
“Commercial aircraft
transportation is a key component to
Williston’s economic development,” said
Anthony Dudas, the director of Williston
Basin Airport. “Northwest North Dakota
has experienced a significant increase
in air traffic during the past decade
due to Williston Basin’s booming oil
and energy business. We look forward
to continuing to see business aviation
traffic increase now that we have
the capacity to host more travelers
in an expanded, efficient and more
comfortable airport setting that supports
larger planes and more passengers.”
