Keynotes
Setting the tone for this year’s conference,
Yves Rossy, the fi rst man in the history of
aviation to fl y with a jet-propelled wing, will give
a thought-provoking talk at the Day 2 Keynote,
taking place October 23.
Rossy, a Swiss military-trained pilot with both fi ghter jet and passenger
airliner experience, is the inventor of a series of experimental individual jet
packs, which he has fl own over several locations such as the Grand Canyon
and the Alps mountain range.
The jet packs use a carbon-fi ber wing with four miniature jet engines
and his own body as control surfaces and has a top speed of more than 150
knots. It took him more than two decades to develop what is today known
as the Jet-Wing. “We are delighted to have ‘Jetman’ Yves Rossy speak at
NBAA-BACE,” said NBAA president and CEO Ed Bolen. “His talk is sure to
thrill and inspire attendees about possibilities for the future of fl ight. The
ability to fl y is one of the most fundamental human aspirations, and we’re
looking forward to hearing Rossy’s motivational stories.”
Aircraft displays
This year’s outdoor aircraft
display will feature
business aircraft for all
missions, from singleengine
piston models to
large intercontinental
business jets and even
the latest rotorcraft. At
the indoor section of the
display, smaller piston singles,
light turboprop aircraft and other
helicopters will be featured.
“A major draw is the ability for
these attendees to talk directly to
original equipment manufacturer (OEM)
representatives to have their questions
answered; however, the displays
also provide signifi cant hands-on
intel by offering these attendees the
opportunity to sit in the seats and walk
the cabins,” explains Joe Hart, NBAA
director, static displays.
This year attendees can
expect to see all of the
major international OEMs
including Airbus, Boeing,
Bombardier, Honda
Aircraft, Pilatus, Dassault
Falcon and Gulfstream
with an appearance from
Tecnam. “This year we are
excited to have Tecnam with us
for the fi rst time showcasing their
newest business aircraft, the 11-seat
P2012 Traveller,” said Hart.
“The NBAA-BACE aircraft display
is the only location where you can
compare business aircraft side-byside
in one location. The aircraft
manufacturers never cease to amaze us
with their beautiful exhibits, and like
previous NBAA-BACE conventions, we
expect there will be a few new aircraft
announcements,” he concludes.
