WHAT’S NEW? PORSCHE GT3 RS
RANGE
Despite using a much
smaller lithium-ion battery
of just 9kW, it is able to cover
150km (93 miles) on a mixed
cycle, however it has the ability to
reuse 80% of the energy captured
from regenerative braking
to double urban range to
300km (186 miles)
CHARGING
The battery can be
recharged to 80% in
one hour when using a
conventional domestic
wall socket

Electric motorbikes are becoming a booming business. To showcase
where they could be heading is the Nawa Racer, a concept e-bike
with a world fi rst hybrid battery system using ultracapacitor technology
Putting a futuristic twist on the
retro café-racer motorcycle,
the Nawa Racer concept
from French energy storage
company Nawa Technologies
is a mouth-watering example of
how advanced electric drivetrain
technology could power e-bikes
and beyond in the coming years.
Using a world fi rst hybrid battery
system it combines revolutionary
ultracapacitors with lithium-ion to
offer next-generation levels of battery
performance with ten-times more
power and fi ve-times more energy
than existing tech. It is the fi rst time
an electric motorbike has used
ultracapacitors and makes it possible
to use a much smaller and lighter
battery unit, which is ideal when
mounting on the limited space twowheeled
mobility offers. Thanks to
the high power characteristics of the
ultracapacitors, the bike will deliver
its full acceleration performance no
matter what charge level is available.
To match the advanced powertrain
technology is a striking modern
chassis design created by UK-based
engineering company Envisage Group,
which uses a lightweight body built
from carbon fi ber and composite
panels complete with classic detailing.
Despite the Nawa Racer only being
a vision of an electric motorbike of
the future, the hybrid battery system
can be applied to all forms of electric
vehicle and has the potential to go
into production soon.

LIGHTWEIGHT
Built from a carbon fi ber
frame and composite body
panels, the bike weights just
150kg (330lbs), which is
almost 25% lighter than
typical electric sports bikes
