compactness of the tractor was

were more than merely aesthetic
but to ensure very practical needs
of European customers were met.
“When you think about typical
American ways of constructing a
tractor; they have a long, wide hood
but our intention was to keep this
hood as short and narrow as
possible,” says Schneider. “In
Europe, because there is a lot more
transfer work, when you have a long
hood and you’re driving on the road
approaching a junction you can’t

drive torque technology rst
introduced in the 1000 Series.
Power generated from the
6 cylinder, in-line common-rail
engine is, then, via its
turbosupercharger and variable
turbine geometry, delivered evenly
even at low engine speeds.
Distributing the torque freely to
both front and rear axles through
two gearbox outputs, a smart
coupling automatically shi s the
torque as required. In essence, it
means maximum tractive force is
maintained at all times – regardless
of the terrain – when moving at
speeds up to 60km/h so if one wheel
loses grip, the torque is redistributed
to wheels with better grip.
When performing a turning
maneuver, the all-wheel drive
system actively pulls the tractor into
the turn that on its own reduces the
turning circle by 10% and even
minimizes tire wear.
Constant torque ranges
from 1,150-1,350rpm, with the
agship 942 producing 1,970Nm at
its lowest rpms leading to plenty of
torque but low fuel consumption.
In accord with the low enginespeed
philosophy that Fendt has
adopted across the 900 Series, every
component across the machine –
from the engine, gearbox, fans and
hydraulics – has been designed to
work on low speeds so keeping fuel
consumption low and ensuring a
longer service life.
e high torque levels, along
with the relatively low unladen
weight of 11.7 metric tons mean the
tractor is not just appropriate for
heavy work but also tasks requiring
low ground pressure and high
tractive power.
