SANDVIK DT1132i
With 150 years of developing engineering
solutions for the off-highway industry,
Sandvik has a long and rich history to draw from,
so the arrival of its latest model to the market this
autumn is generating a palpable sense of
anticipation within the mining world. A brandnew
vehicle, the DT1132i jumbo, is quite literally
breaking new ground.
“When talking about intelligent three boom
tunneling jumbos, the DT1132i is our most
important launch in the last 10 years”, says
Sandvik product manager for tunneling drills,
Tommi Salo. “It has been purpose-designed for
fast and accurate drilling in tunneling and cavern
excavation. The computer-controlled rig
possesses both operator-controlled boom
positioning and full-face automatic drilling
functions. As well as incorporating some of
20 iVT International Off-Highway 2020
Sandvik’s latest developments in digital solutions,
the new rig uses Sandvik’s new high frequency
RD535 rock drill, robust booms and advanced
drill string guides, making it a complete and new
high-speed drilling solution.”
Adding to the six models already in the
Swedish conglomerate’s lineup, the new DT1132i
is one of the largest underground drill rigs
serving the global mining industry.
Modular design
Like the rest of the range, the newest member has
a modular design that makes it versatile for a
variety of applications, particularly suitable for fast
face drilling or mechanized long-hole drilling and
bolting. The drilling system on the three-boom,
electrohydraulic machine has been completely
redesigned to include a new high-power rock drill,
a new stronger boom and new controls for the
operation of the boom and drilling.
Designed specifically for the vehicle, the RD535
rock drill’s body structure allows the operator to
focus on the task at hand as all the internal parts
remain perfectly aligned during operation.
Weighing 230kg on its own, the hydraulicallypercussive
drill features a stabilizer that secures
bit rock contact at all times for greater efficiency
but also extends the lifetime of the tool. Another
notable element is its independent reversible
rotation capabilities and low profile height.
“The new RD535 is a high performance and
high frequency rock drill,” says Salo. “It has
maximized power transfer capabilities leading to
a high drilling speed without compromising hole
quality. It has an efficient and powerful patented
percussion mechanism, as well as a tool-saving,
