Powering the machines are the Stage V-ready
Yanmar TNV engines with 12 speed transmission.
Four-wheel drive is selected by a lever, and the
front axle is the YT3 unit. The three-point hitch is
compatible with Category I and II attachments
and there is a PTO system as standard on both
models, as is a locking fuel cap.
Yanmar’s motto is designed to perform,
manufactured to serve, built to last – the new YM
range fits the bill nicely,” says van der Vorst. iVT

Forward view with the YM range
Yanmar’s pursuit of new technology in
agriculture is not restricted to engines. Robot
tractors and the SmartAssist Remote system aim
to guide tractors on the ideal path to plow
a field or sow seeds by using a combination
of a communication terminal and GPS to find the
most economical route. As well as saving fuel,
this reduces machine downtime and increases the
productivity. It can be managed via a computer or
an app, and alarms can be set up to go off if preset
parameters are breached.
“We sat down with our customers and they
told us they needed the power and spec of the
larger machines without the purchase price,” says
Peter van der Vorst, manager agricultural dept.
“So the design is not limited to purely traditional
agriculture, but also for jobs such as municipal
landscaping and golf course maintenance.”
Stay safe
Safety is crucial on the new YM range. Starting at
the bottom, floors are flat without trip hazards,
and at the top there is a mid-mounted ROPS
(roll-over protection system) frame. Seats are
ergonomically designed and fully adjustable with
an accessory charger socket as standard.
“The operator is always at the heart of
the design,” says van der Vorst. “We know
compact tractors sometimes work in confined
environments, so we managed to slant the front
