available for its leather ranges
T he Perrone and Avery families have been manufacturing
and distributing leather for more than a century and four
generations. As one of the most respected leather and
textile suppliers in the commercial, corporate and VIP aerospace
markets, Perrone recognises the stringent regulatory and economic
requirements placed on its customers and has leveraged extensive
knowledge, experience and craftsmanship to strengthen its foothold
in the railway market. An experienced supplier to all segments of
the rail market, Perrone Railway has worked with clients including
Bombardier, Siemens, Compin and Felfab.
“We understand the key technical components in creating
materials for aviation seating and the rail market is very similar
with regards to design needs and passenger comfort,” says
Marc Cognetti, director of marketing at the company.

Weight reduction has been a core factor in Perrone’s
developments for the aviation market, both for its genuine leather
and synthetic upholstery ranges. Featherweight genuine leather
was one of Perrone’s first innovations, created shortly after the
company was formed. Perrone has now taken this innovation and
introduced it to the rail market. “Weight has always been a major
issue for all transportation markets,” says Bill Perrone, president
of Perrone Railway. “Less weight equals fuel cost savings.”
Weighty issue
Cognetti says that at the time of its creation, Featherweight Leather
addressed weight and fuel savings in a way that had not been
