Hanoi unveils plan for congestion zone
Vehicles could soon
be charged in
downtown Hanoi as
authorities look to
increase the number
of journeys taken by
public transport within
Vietnam’s capital.
In an effort to deter
congestion, pollution and
single vehicle use, the
city plans to reduce the
number of individuallyoccupied
vehicles by
20-25% by 2020 through
the increased use of
public transport and
bicycles.
According to the plan,
motorbikes – Hanoi’s
most popular form of
transport – will also be
banned from inner-city
districts by 2030 in order
to further reduce
emissions. The city will
introduce more than 45
new bus routes by 2020,
some of which could
incorporate bus priority
lanes to improve
services and attract
more users. Figures from
the Hanoi Urban Traffic
Management Operation
show that 180,000 buses
had to skip stops or
make diversions due to
congestion in 2018,
which equates to 3.5%
of services that year.
California scheming
Texan manufacturer to deliver advanced
traffic management in California
Trafficware has
been chosen by the
City of Livermore in
California to deliver its
ATMS (advanced traffic
management system).
Trafficware will install
and integrate new and
existing traffic
controllers, bringing data
into a single repository
for a real-time,
360-degree view of
operations. Livermore
joins a rapidly growing
number of agencies in
California looking for
advanced technologies
to help them manage
urban mobility.
Agencies such as the
cities of Cupertino, Palo
Alto, Walnut Creek,
Carlsbad, and Fresno and
Santa Clara County, have
chosen Trafficware’s
software and hardware
to improve mobility.
Solutions include ATMS
as the platform for
smart city technology
and future expansion
into CAVs; SynchroGreen
Adaptive Signal Control;
Transit Signal Priority
(TSP) for buses; and
Internet of Things (IoT)
edge technologies to
measure and improve
overall traffic slow. Each
is designed to scale as
an agency expands its
specific needs.
