On August 13, 2019, Mayor
Sylvester Turner signed
a Vision Zero Executive
Order that commits the
City of Houston, Texas to eliminating
traffic deaths by 2030. Hailed as
a signal moment in US road safety, it
requires collaboration between city
departments, public agencies, nonprofit
organizations, community
groups and private sector partners in
assessing the problems on Houston’s
roads and developing holistic
strategies to address them. Together
for Safer Roads (TSR), founded in
2014 to focus its private-sector
members on tackling the global
challenge of road safety, will play an
integral role in the effort. Houston is
