DEPLOYMENT BENEFITS
Applying the software to allocate and manage employees, one client is processing on average 350,000 express shipments per night.
However, during the peak holiday season the number can increase to 500,000. On any given day, approximately 250 loading staff and
drivers are allocated through its workforce management tool. The freight volume is loaded on 65 cargo flights during a four-hour time
window. To pull this off, an advanced level of situational awareness that supports optimised decision-making is imperative.
to enhance its solutions. One study uncovered the need for a
stronger focus on the business value of transport between aircraft
and the cargo warehouse. This prompted INFORM to build an
optimiser that uses pre-set company rules such as contracted SLAs,
cargo products and priority flights to compute optimised tours.
The use of telematics provides the data to measure, predict and
mitigate en-route delays. A user-centric Graphical User Interface
(or GUI) guides the user to work along those task priorities, if
exceptions have to be managed. The solution also automatically
time stamps each task for later SLA audits.
Transporting cargo between the aircraft and the cargo centre,
as well as transportation within different locations in the cargo
centre, provide opportunities for efficiency enhancements.
Additionally, on-time dolly availability at aircraft stands and
holding areas, as well as the preparation of dolly trains at aircraft
and at outbound docks, can greatly benefit from advanced
automation and focused decision-making. For example, one of
INFORM’s cargo customers credited optimisation software with
driving an estimated 20% increase in dolly train utilisation.
Previously, the carrier’s loading and cargo supervisors were unable
to utilise their full dolly
capacity and meet all SLAs
and other timelines. Now, an
automated assessment makes
the decision for a driver to
deliver units to two or more
flights based on time savings
and risks to violate SLAs.
Cargo carriers continue to
experience accelerated growth
and at the same time face
limited infrastructure, staff and
vehicles. Solutions applying
advanced automation and
robust decision-making tools
to optimise their processes
will be critical in supporting
this growth through increased
productivity of their resources.
As operations become
more complex and airport
infrastructures more
constrained, improving
situational awareness and
the ability to manage by
exception becomes even more
important. When situations
become more difficult
and stressful, optimisers
can provide automated
adjustments, so that human
resources can focus on the
critical tasks at hand. Finally,
the side effect of supporting
sustainability strategies should
not be underestimated, since
the optimisation of ground
transportation with the goal of
reducing emissions is becoming
increasingly important.
