CITY TALK
Uncertainty Continues
BACK IN THE recession of the
1990s I was told by my boss
that sackings will continue
until morale improves. Crass
as this was and as pleasing
as I found it when he was
himself given his own DCM
(Don’t Come Monday) at
the end of that week, I’m
reminded this week of the
sheer senselessness of that
moment by most things going
on around me in the world of
politics and business.
Somehow the FTSE is pretty
steady, and Sterling is up
against the USD.
The story and headline of
the month here however is
that yesterday Gamma shares
had surged to an all-time high
of 936.0, albeit they slipped a
little this morning.
Ahead of these events I
met with Gamma CEO Andrew
Taylor last week at their
yearly reseller roadshow in
London. (There’s a write up

this month) and the overall
impression I came away with
was that Gamma are aware
of their competitive threats
but are moving ahead to
take advantage of what they
see as a huge opportunity
in the hosted telephony and
UCaaS markets. The fact
that Gamma can now deliver
both applications as well as
the underlying connectivity
required to deliver a real QoS
and user experience is not
hurting their cause one jot.
Whilst Gamma might seem
bulletproof against the Brexit
backdrop, many organisations
are getting truly frustrated
over the uncertainty that
our failure to conclude the

actually leaving the EU. It’s a
poor state of affairs that just
can’t be explained with any
credibility.
More next month.
