JUST A MINUTE
“Everyone is at home trying to work and home school so that demand has never been stronger.”
Driving development
Managing Director of IPCortex, Glyn Thomas,
recently spoke to Comms Business about the new
developments he is bringing to market over the
coming months
CBM: How is the business
landscape for you right now?
GT: A lot of the growth which
I had expected in the next
couple of quarters has gone
on hold which is frustrating.
Our nancial model is pretty
solid though, we have a hosted
base with recurring revenue in
support services. Like everyone,
the only real worry we have is
taking on bad debt.
We have some partners that
sell into the hospitality sector
so they are obviously going to
feel it signicantly if things
continue. Saying that, we
haven’t had partners come to us
with anything on that front yet.
We are still fully functioning
across the business in every
department, although working
from home. We are able to
‘drink our own champagne’
from a technology point of view
which is handy. If any of our
partners want tin, we have the
appropriate systems in place to
still deliver that safely, all of our
products are still available.
CBM: What are your plans for
the next quarter or so?
GT: Like a lot of people, we
had a buoyant last quarter. I’m
still trying to drive ahead with
activities, I’d rather go live with
a product where people may not
be ready to buy it rather than
not go live and nd out down
the line that someone wants it.
We have a new Teams client
going live shortly, that is a fully
featured Teams client with
all the PBX functionality of
IPCortex. Partners are getting
excited about that.
I am currently beta testing
a mobile client at the moment
too. It will be available on iOS
rst (shortly) and then Android
later in the year.
Henry West, Commercial Director - Truespeed
New Beginnings
Henry West recently joined West Country ISP
Truespeed to accelerate their growth journey. He
caught up with Comms Business to talk about the
opportunity he sees for the market
CBM: Tell us about you first
month or so in the business?
Henry West (HW): I haven’t
been into the oce yet! e
job started on April 1st and I
can’t believe how busy I have
been. e last 5-6 weeks have
been about helping where I
can in the business around the
COVID fallout. e wholesale
and business stu is a priority
but its hard to start that with
what is going on.
From a residential
perspective the demand has
never been greater in our
target areas. Everyone is at
home trying to work and home
school so that demand has
never been stronger. ose
customers are easier to get hold
of right now also too.
CBM: What is your remit in
your new role?
HW: My remit is to look at
products across the business,
how do we maximise the value
of our bre, how do we create
propositions for our target
markets, to create a wholesale
proposition for others to resell,
and then how do we go after
businesses.
UC will be an area we look
at down the line, but we may
just partner for that. ere are
lots of partners out there which
target the same geographic
areas as we do.
CBM: What key market
developments do you see
coming?
HW: Onboarding Altnets is
going to be key for aggregators.
You can’t go against them
because no one can oer 200
Meg synchronous for £46 a
month. It denitely overcomes
all of the customer’s challenges
and unlocks businesses to
do all the things they want
to do, they are going to have
to onboard them and have a
patchwork of altnets across the
country where they can oer
those services.
