FROM THE EDITOR
The whirlwind continues
Iwould like to congratulate all the winners of the Comms Business Awards, the Channel
congregated at the Royal Lancaster, London, last month for a superb evening of recognising
talent in our industry. Well done to all! You can see all the winners on page 34.
My inbox has been groaning this month with the amount of news coming through the
wires. We’ve seen 5G services nally launched in the UK, EE beat everyone to the punch on that
one, Daisy is going through some major restructuring with its channel business units, GCI is
back on the acquisition trail and so much more.
We have also decided its time we gave you all something new and so we have launched our
podcast service called the Comms Business ‘Channel Insider’ Podcast. We
have launched the initiative with Knight Corporate Finance with a view
to getting key channel gures to share their opinions once a week on the
most prominent news items of the day. You can catch up with those on the
Comms Business website and on iTunes.
We are in the lead up to Channel Live now, the UK’s biggest
gahtering of Channel companies to be held at the NEC on the 11th
and 12th of September. You can nd more information on the 2019
event on page 18. If you are looking to network, educate yourself
and source new suppliers, there really is no better place.
Over the summer it will be interesting to see how the major
carriers battle it out in the 5G market. EE has got the jump on
everyone but ree has managed to get itself into the enviable
position of owning more spectrum than anyone else. For the
Channel, there could be an opportunity here in the mobile
broadband space with replacement services as ree is claiming their
speeds will be vastly superior over the other carriers.
I am especially looking forward to validating the wild claims being
made by the 5G pundits over the last few years. Will we see some
‘egg on face’ moments? I would expect there to be many!
Enjoy the issue
