Welcome
Digital Britain is not a new term, it
originated in 2009 when the UK
government produced the Digital Britain
report which was intended to outline a
strategic vision to ensure the country led the
global digital economy. is month will mark
the ten-year anniversary of that report, much has
changed over that time period.
2012 saw 4G services launch in the UK for
the rst time, EE managed to beat everyone to
the punch on that. Here we stand on the cusp
of 5G just seven years later, bre is being put
into the ground at a rate of knots, Openreach
has restructured to enable fairer competition
(debatably), prices for businesses looking at
super-fast services has come down, BT has
announced the ISDN end of life (2025), IoT
is driving low powered networks, ‘softwarede
ned’ has become an everyday phrase… I
could go on.
For me, Digital Britain is a very broad
concept which hinges on one fundamental
building block… connectivity. Innovation at the
application level is occurring at a rapid rate, but
without the foundations (connectivity) in place
we are essentially a three legged donkey trying to
win the Grand National.
is guide is intended to educate, inform,
and equip partners with knowledge on how that
foundation is being developed and where the
innovation in the market is coming from.
Enjoy.
