SOUTHERN MANUFACTURING | PREVIEW
SHOOUSTPHITEARNLI TY Southern Manufacturing & Electronics is taking place
from 11-13 February at the Farnborough International
Exhibition and Conference Centre. So, what’s in store?
Southern Manufacturing &
Electronics is one of the
most important and popular
engineering shows in the UK
calendar. From modest beginnings
as a regional event, it has evolved
into a fully-fledged national show,
with increasing influence across
continental Europe and further
afield. In 2018, the event entered
its third decade with a move into
its new permanent home, the £35m
Farnborough International Exhibition
and Conference Centre development,
a 20,000m² complex offering worldclass
facilities, easy access and free
onsite parking.
Taking place from 11th-13th
February and featuring a diversity of
suppliers, Southern Manufacturing
and Electronics is an event that
does not seek to focus on any
individual sector of the engineering
industry. It is certainly an event
important enough to attract big
name manufacturers, but it’s also
an extremely accessible show for
the rich eco-system of engineering
SMEs operating across the UK, and
increasingly, continental Europe too.
As well as giving the show its unique
character, it also makes it one of the
most effective shows for addressing
multiple sourcing issues in a very
time-efficient way.
A must-attend event for anyone
involved in design, engineering
production and procurement –
the place to see all the latest in
production hardware, components,
consumables and technology serving
a wide range of industries including
Aerospace/Defence, Automotive,
Electronics Assembly/ Production,
Industrial Machinery, Packaging/
Handling/Logistics, Energy, Marine,
Medical/PharmaBio, Mechanical
Engineering and Metal Processing.
Co-located with Southern
Manufacturing & Electronics,
AutoAero is a highly specialised
event focused on the suppliers to
the UK’s Aerospace and Automotive
Engineering sectors. Farnborough
is, of course, well-known for its links
to the aviation industry. BAE Systems
and Lockheed Martin both have their
UK headquarters within five minutes’
walk of the show.
WHAT TO SEE
■ Elesa (UK) Ltd - a global
manufacturer of standard machine
elements - will once again exhibit
at Southern Manufacturing &
Electronics 2020, Farnborough,
from the 11-13 February, on stand
No. F250. Elesa will display its
range of high-quality machine
components, used for production
equipment and often incorporated
into end products – including such
items as: levelling feet, castors,
measuring, alignment, e.g. bulls
eye levels, linear and angular
measurement.
■ This year at Southern
Manufacturing, engineers and
buyers seeking expertise in
spring technology will be able
to talk directly with the technical
experts at Lee Spring. Lee
Spring has recently expanded
its UK manufacturing operations
with the acquisition of Longcroft
Engineering located in Lancashire
between Manchester and Leeds.
This acquisition provides Lee
Spring with additional resources
and capabilities to engineer
and manufacture a wider range
of products here in the UK. Lee
Spring will be at stand no. D245.
■ The Carfulan Group is preparing
to demo a range of its state-ofthe
art manufacturing technology
at the first major industry show of
the new decade. The Derbyshire
firm is set to exhibit at Southern
Manufacturing and Electronics
and has lined up best-in-class
machines from across its four
businesses, which specialise
in multi-sensor metrology, 3D
printing, tool pre-setting and
turned-part measurement
respectively.
■ Digitalisation is fuelling
consumer desires for product
customisations. Consequently,
demand for mass-personalised
precision components with a
quick turnaround is in higher
demand. Responding to this,
on Stand C195 at Southern
Manufacturing & Electronics
2020, Broanmain Plastics
will launch its new precisionmoulding
manufacturing
facility that caters to branded,
customised precision components
used in the automotive,
aerospace, electronics and
FMCG sectors.
