COFFEE TIME CHALLENGE
t FACE VALhem Ufor shortE We’ve all got used to wearing
face masks in the last year.
Needless to say, this is hardly
a development any of us has
welcomed, but it is one most of us have been
forced to accept.
Of course, when we started wearing
masks last year, many of us assumed it
would be a strictly temporary measure –
something we’d have to do for a month or
so and could then forget about. With that in
mind, many of us didn’t pay much attention
to the quality of these masks, feeling that a
small degree of discomfort was hardly worth
worrying about because we would only have
to wear them for a short while.
Sadly, this has not proved to be the case.
Nearly a year later we’re still wearing the
masks and in some cases are required to
wear them for extended periods, meaning
that their shortcomings have become a
rather more pressing matter.
And the sad truth for most masks is that
they simply aren’t very good. They don’t
t properly; they cause people’s glasses
to steam up; they become damp and
uncomfortable very quickly and are simply
not t for being worn for lengthy periods at
all. Indeed, sometimes these masks when
worn for a long time can even feel sti ing.
This has naturally focused people’s minds
on creating new designs of masks, with
designers seeking improved comfort, better
t, better air ow and ease of breathing – all
while having to remain cost-effective and
of course offer effective control of disease
transmission.
THIS MONTH’S CHALLENGE
The Challenge this month, then, is to design
a better facemask that meets all these criteria
and could make mask-wearing less of a trial
for those who have to do it for long periods.
As ever, we have a solution in mind, but we’re
interested to see what you come up with... !
As ever we have an idea in mind that we will reveal in the March issue of Eureka! Until then, why not let us know how you would tackle the problem
by leaving your thoughts in the comments section of the Eureka! website or by emailing the editor: paul.fanning@markallengroup.com
