Move of the month
Culture Trip has announced the
appointment of Karen Kesner,
former global director of
recruiting at Booking.com, as
chief people officer.
Kesner launched her HR career
at a pivotal time in technology in
the Pacific Northwest and Silicon
Valley, helping to ready one of
the earliest tech start-up IPOs at
RealNetworks in 1997, then the
sixth-largest IPO at Visa in 2008.
Kesner has also completed
stints leading projects in
technology innovation at
Microsoft, Washington Mutual,
Apple and Audible.
I decided to make the move
because... When I left my last
job I wanted to find a role that
would allow me to bring
everything I had to the job.
Culture Trip has an exceptional
CEO and leadership team, with
endless energy and enthusiasm to
help employees succeed.
I knew Culture Trip was the
right place for me when…
I met with the team. They
confirmed to me that there
was alignment regarding what
was important in building out
a great culture for creative and
ambitious talent, and what
they would do to support our
shared goals.
I’m most excited about…
Being involved in the entire talent
and employee lifecycle while
working with colleagues who
want to build an amazing
product for our users. I want to
invest in creating a place for
colleagues to do their best
creative work.
My biggest challenge in the
new role will be... Pacing and
prioritising our people and
leadership initiatives. There are
unlimited possibilities for success
but finite hours in the day. I am
fortunate to be joining a very
talented team of HR professionals
that are equally ambitious.
The biggest lesson I’ve
learnt from my previous
roles has been... The
value of listening, and how
to present strategies and
solutions that are fit for purpose.
This is essential in the first 90
days of my onboarding.
The toughest point of my
career has been… Delivering
immediate results during a
transformative time while
trying to build out teams at scale
and speed.
If I achieve one thing in my
new role… I want everyone in
the company to understand their
unique role and contributions,
and really look forward to
celebrating individual and team
success along the way.
