#sawing – Kasto, Stand 19-610
A re-engineered ‘tec’ range of top-end,
horizontal bandsaws, the unveiling of
second-generation KASTOtec machines plus
the launch of a larger KASTOmicut pivot-bow
bandsaw are all features of the company’s
MACH presence New features of the ‘tec’
range have been incorporated that support
faster production, halving cycle times in
some cases, while also reducing tool wear.
The bene ts are largely a result of the
incorporation of a pair of servo-motor-driven
ballscrews for steplessly adjusting the
downfeed to optimise bandsaw blade chip
load. Combined with KASTOrespond
technology, downfeed force is optimised,
irrespective of material being cut, and
material property variation in cut
accommodated. Users need only to enter
data such as cut lengths and number of
pieces, together with the type of material to
be sawn and its diameter, to the Kasto
ProControl. Everything else is taken care of
automatically. An additional bene t of
electrically actuated ballscrew feed is that a
much smaller, separate hydraulic unit is
required, reducing power consumption
Second-generation KASTOtec machines
bene t from the addition of a frequencycontrolled
bandsaw blade drive through a
bevel spur gear, which delivers 15 kW of
power and in nitely adjustable cutting
speeds from 30 to 300 m/min. Pretensioned
linear guides, each with two
grease-lubricated carriages, also help to
extend the working life of the machine. Also
highlighted is a system for automatically
optimising the position of a pair of cleaning
brushes so that chips are always removed
from saw teeth Two new models have
been added to the KASTOmicut range of
pivot-bow, metalcutting bandsaws, delivering
both larger and smaller capacity than the
existing three models. The KASTOmicut U
4.6 can saw ats up to 520 mm wide at 90°
and mitres from -45 to +60°. Material
clamping is via a horizontally acting,
hydraulic vice, with band speed varying from
12 to 150 m/min. The KASTOmicut P 1.8 is
for workpieces up to 180 mm diameter,
offering mitring between 0 and +45°.
Downfeed rate is manually guided, with the
blade driven by a 1.5 kW three-phase motor,
ensuring high quality cutting. Depending on
machine model, the shortest cutting length
is between 6 and 10 mm, while remnant
length is 15 to 30 mm, maximising material
usage. An ef cient worm gear drive provides
top performance and the advanced design
ensures a constant cutting force for ef cient
processing of different materials.

#turning – Mills CNC, Stand 19-100
Mills CNC will showcase 18 high
performance Doosan machines and a range
of advanced automation systems and
solutions, 16 on its own stand and two on
partner booths. A range of industrial and
collaborative robot solutions will be in
action, while on the training front, Mills CNC
Training Academy will have a presence
One of many machines making a debut is
the DEM 4000 – a compact, high
productivity vertical machining centre
equipped with a 7.5 kW/8,000 rpm spindle,
a 20-position ATC and the latest FANUC
control Five-axis machines will be
represented by three DVF models, a
Heidenhain-controlled Doosan DVF 5000
integrated with a large-capacity automatic
work changer (AWC), plus two new models,
a FANUC-controlled DVF 6500 and a
Heidenhain-controlled DVF 8000. All three
machines are equipped with direct-drive
spindles (up to 22 kW/18,000 rpm) and are
supplied with integrated thermal
compensation systems to maintain precision
Automation is also the theme with the
TT 1300SYYB and TT 2100SYYB twin-turret,
twin-spindle turning centres that boast Y-axis
capability on both upper and lower turrets
Doosan Lynx and Puma lathes will also be
present. This will include: a large capacity
Puma 700LM lathe with driven tools; a 10”
chuck Puma 2600SY Mk II lathe with Y-axis
Three 5-axis Doosan machining centre
models will form part of Mills CNC’s stand
