New Goole train manufacturing site on track
Siemens Mobility has started
development of a new train
manufacturing plant and supply
chain rail village in Goole, East
Yorkshire, and has awarded a
£40m contract to Leeds-based GMI
Construction to build the new stateof
the-art rail facility.
The Goole site was chosen due
to the scale to accommodate a
large facility along with access to
the skilled workforce needed to
build and operate the factory.
Phased development of the 67-acre
site is now underway.
New engineering centre plans
REE Automotive (REE) - a
renowned player in e-Mobility - is
to establish a new state-of-the-art
Engineering Centre of Excellence
in the UK at MIRA Technology
Park in Nuneaton.
The new centre will expedite
REE’s strategic plans to meet
anticipated global demand for its
breakthrough REEcorner and
electric vehicle (EV) platform
technology.
It will spearhead REEcorner
and EV platform engineering
design, validation, veri cation
and testing, as well as product
homologation. REE will also have
access to world-class test
facilities and a proving ground for
physical testing and validation of
the REEcorner and EV platform.
REE plans a £65m
investment during the next three
years in the new centre and
region.
The UK is fast becoming
Europe’s leading mobility R&D
location for developing the latest
automotive technology - and the
centre is set to create 200 skilled
jobs in the next few years.
REE’s CapEx-light
manufacturing model will utilise
globally located integration
centres, creating scalable and
agile unit economics. REE intends
to assemble components at its
integration centres, thus reducing
Capex requirements, and expects
to establish a network of 15
integration centres with the rst
to open in the US in 2021.
REE plans to manufacture via
a secured and exclusive global
network of Tier 1 partners in over
30 countries, with point-of-sale
assembly.
Daniel Barel, REE’s co-
Founder and CEO, said: “The rst
REEcorners are expected to be
delivered to customers in 2022,
with mass production beginning
in 2023.”

Siemens Mobility has also
contracted a further £10m to other
UK suppliers. Mace was appointed in
autumn 2019 to provide project and
cost management services. CR
Reynolds is undertaking enabling
and Premier Modular has supplied
temporary site of ces.
With an investment potential of
up to £200m, Siemens Mobility said
the new factory could create as many
as 700 skilled jobs in engineering
and manufacturing, as well as
employing an additional 250 people
during the construction phase. An
estimated 1,700 indirect jobs are
also expected to be created
throughout the UK supply chain.
The facility in Goole will have
860,000 square feet of
manufacturing, commissioning,
warehouse buildings and stabling
sidings, as well as a four-storey,
54,000 square foot of ce building.
When complete, Goole will
manufacture and commission trains
– the rst of which will be new Tube
trains for London’s Piccadilly line with
plans for additional train
manufacture in the future. This could
include additional trains for the
Bakerloo, Central and Waterloo &
City line Tube, plus mainline
suburban and intercity trains.
Sambit Banerjee, managing
director of Siemens Mobility rolling
stock and customer services, said:
“Our goal is to really put Goole on
the map. We want to create more
than just a rail manufacturing factory,
this is about generating long-term
investment, skills and jobs.”
Siemens Mobility also has
additional plans to create an
innovation centre with co-located
suppliers, making Goole a rail centre
of excellence for the UK.
