DOMESTIC PROPERTY
APPLICATION USING ROOF TILES
WINNER
Redroofs, Sprotbrough: BMI Redland working with Martin-Brooks
(Roofi ng Specialists)
Project:
One of Martin-Brooks’ (Roofi ng Specialists)
clients wanted to drastically alter the
appearance of its bungalow (Redroofs,
Sprotbrough), by introducing a new tower and
roof to the front elevations of the building.
BMI Redland’s Rosemary Clay Plain roof tiles
had previously been used on other elevations
of the bungalow, so the decision was made to
match those areas.
While access to the site wasn’t diffi cult,
the property remained occupied at all times,
so Martin-Brooks had to work closely with the
main contractor and client to ensure there was
as little disruption as possible.
The structure of the spire and its location
on the roof slope made the interface with the
main roof areas very complex. This meant that
the standard details could not be used, and the
different details had to be re-designed as work
progressed to ensure that the tiles could be laid
correctly.
There were a number of these bespoke
details designed in conjunction with the main
contractor, architect and Martin-Brooks during
the contract. The area around the spire was also
curved, which involved the cutting of many of
the tiles.
Martin-Brooks completed the works on
budget and to the correct timescale, despite the
intricate details that were involved with certain
aspects of the work.
