BEST APPLICATION OF ROOFLIGHTS
WINNER
Cheltenham kitchen renovation: Roof Maker, working
with Intagood Construction
Product:
Roof Maker’s Luxlite pitched roofl ights have a
contemporary frameless view from the inside,
resulting in more natural light when compared
to traditional roofl ights.
Designed for pitched roofs, their built-in
fl ashing apron results in an easy install and
superior water dispersion.
Three Luxlite pitched roofl ights (each at
1.2m x 1m), were specifi ed as part of Ruth
Heslop’s kitchen renovation.
The owner of the Edwardian semidetached
house in Cheltenham wanted to
achieve a fl ush fi nish that would see the
roofl ights seamlessly installed alongside the
plaster of the internal walls. The minimal,
insulated aluminium frames met this criteria.
Project :
For Intagood Construction, access to the
kitchen was diffi cult when installing the
roofl ights, as there is only one metre of side
access between the side of the house and the
next property’s boundaries.
Six installers had to carry the roofl ights
through to the side of the property to be
installed on the single-storey roof. The
diffi cult process was guided by Roof Maker’s
technical team, who assisted the installers
in ensuring the roofl ights would fi t within the
three spacings of the roof.
The built-in fl ashing apron also simplifi ed
the installation process for the builders, as
with the restricted space they had to fi t the
products, they made for straightforward
and quick installation, whilst also providing
adequate water dispersion. The weight of
the triple glazing eliminated the requirement
for a crane as the installers could place the
roofl ights on top of the single-storey roof and
install the roofl ights in a short amount of time.
As the homeowner wanted to make a
contemporary update to the property that
would also be in keeping with the history of
the building, Roof Maker’s technical team
worked closely with the owner to ensure that
the bespoke sizing of the roofl ights would
enable her to maximise on the natural light
that enters the room, whilst the streamlined
frames would be unobtrusive to the existing
environment.

Duxford Imperial
War Museum:
Coxdome, working
with M & J Group
Product:
The striking central atrium Barrel Vault
Roofl ight System from Coxdome spans an
impressive 6.5m x 125m.
The Barrel Vault Roofl ight System
was chosen for the Duxford Imperial War
Museum because it allows the maximum
fl ow of natural daylight directly into the space
below, thereby showcasing the exhibits in
their full potential.
Project:
The original system on the Land Warfare
Hall was failing and in urgent need of
replacement, and due to the rare and
valuable exhibits housed inside the building,
installation of a new system presented a
number of challenges.
Being sympathetic to the sensitive nature
of the project and to ensure the safety of
the visitors and exhibits below, M & J Group
worked alongside JET UK to conquer the
intricate logistics to install the system in
small sections, which was secured at the
end of each day, leaving the building safe and
watertight overnight.
All works were completed on time and
under budget, according to M & J Group.
With the installation complete, the Barrel
Vault Roofl ight system is now allowing the
fl ow of evenly distributed natural daylight
directly into the space below.

JUDGES’ COMMENTS
“This was a small domestic project which has been executed really well, and shows what
roofl ights can do in a space, because it has transformed the interior of the kitchen. Out of all of the entries for
this category, we felt that this roofl ight application transformed the building most dramatically.”
