The perfect friction
“Customers told us there was
a demand for a single-axis,
heavy-duty joystick, for
example for asphalt-surfacing machines,”
says Erik Kauppi, sales engineer at
Caldaro. “It was clear if we were to
create this joystick, it had to be the safest
on the market.”
Drawing on 30 years’ experience,
Caldaro used the same electronics and
axle from its C15 joystick, with double
independent, outgoing signals
and a CAN interface. By
adopting the best from
two worlds they
created the perfect,
single-axis
joystick with
precision and
feel: the C17
was born.
By
deploying the
steering
tiller ball
plunger
from
marine levers Caldaro engineers obtained
exactly the right click when the joystick
goes back to the centre position. They also
knew how to get the perfect
friction hold, without
too much drag between
the sliding friction
discs, which would lead
to a jagged movement.
Instead Caldaro has created
a joystick with fluid, effortless
movement, but not so light that
there’s no resistance left.
“The joystick moves smoothly,
giving operators an intuitive feeling
of control while setting the joystick
in the desired locked position,”
says Kauppi. “Now we can offer an
exceptional, robust, one-axle
joystick, which includes features
derived from marine controls. It is
produced in Sweden.”

Eberspächer acquires Kalori
Having an
extensive product
portfolio is just as
important as a well-developed,
international network. This is
what Eberspächer is aiming
for with the acquisition of
French climate control
specialist Kalori SAS. As
a heating and cooling system
supplier, Eberspächer is
expanding its product range
to provide ideal thermal
management for special vehicles. Kalori’s
profound experience in HVAC development,
application and production perfectly
complements Eberspächer’s existing
product portfolio. Among other things, the
heating and cooling systems offer
enhanced comfort and safety in the form
of pre-heated engines in winter and
pleasantly cool driver’s cabs in summer.
At the same time, the company helps
customers comply with statutory
workplace regulations and ensures
operational readiness – not only for
construction, agricultural and forestry
machinery, but also for commercial
vehicles such as minibuses, vans and
ambulances. The product portfolio ranges
from pre-heaters, electrical heaters and
convection heaters to integrated and roofmounted
air-conditioning systems suiting
all requirements and every need. Products
by Eberspächer Kalori are available via the
worldwide Eberspächer subsidiaries and
its global distribution network.

Electrify auxiliaries to reduce CO2
Affordable customised displays
The new colour TFT LCD
displays range 5000.X from
Bauser, specialists in the
development and production of technology
for off-highway and material handling
vehicles, have a similar appearance to
a smartphone. Boasting a mineral glass
front capable of holding several LED
warning lamps, the graphic 320x240 pixels
can be used for a variety of visualisation
purposes. These include error codes or
warnings from the machine’s electronic
control unit, speed indication in miles or
kilometers per hour, temperature values,
and machine operation and service hours.
The design of the HMI is simple, clear
and customisable. The operator can use
bar graphs, digits,
symbols or text
outputs. Up to four
optional buttons can
be added for setting
the time and date, or
scrolling through the
menu screens. These
displays comprise 26
connector pins
(optionally super-sealed) and can be used
for digital inputs, analog sensors, digital
outputs and communicating via CANbus.
The newly designed TN-Technology
LCD-based displays 808.X for simple
visualisation tasks use up to 10 warning
lamps, two front buttons, a 10-pin
connector (optionally sealed) with four
digital and two analog inputs, and one
CANbus interface. Data like fuel and/or oil
level, battery charge, operation and
service hours can be designed to
customer’s needs.

New heavy-duty vehicle
emission standards specify
sharp CO2 reduction targets:
15% by 2025 and 30% by 2030. In addition
to continuous optimisation of the internal
combustion engine, the electrification of
auxiliaries around the engine provides
a path toward cleaner and more efficient
transportation.
The phasing out of belt-driven
auxiliaries will require electric motors.
With its CPM90 Brushless DC motor range,
Sonceboz can provide compact and
efficient solutions to drive each single
system, such as
steering pumps,
water pumps
and
compressors, leading to an optimised
power-on-demand system. The company is
a leader in mechatronic drive solutions
designed to operate in harsh
environments. Thanks to Sonceboz’s knowhow
in mechatronics, motor control and
software, it offers best-in-class efficiency
of up to 90% (motor and integrated
electronic) as well as seamless system
integration. Available at 24V and 48V, the
CPM90 is perfect for mobile applications
and battery-operated machines where
component size matters. This powerful
brushless motor shows outstanding
performance of up to 5.4kW peak power
and 14Nm peak torque.
Sonceboz can accompany you from your
specifications to mass production of your
solution. Its state-of-the-art industrial
facilities allow it to reach a high level of
automation and 0ppm quality. These
qualities have been the foundation of its
success since 1936.
