UPDATE
Tigers on the
prowl in Holland
Tigers is building a new
mega hub facility in
Rotterdam, as global
customer demand and the
e-commerce sector continue
to grow.
The multi-million Euro
mega hub is currently under
construction and is scheduled
to be offi cially opened in
April 2020, at which point it
will provide another fl agship
location for Tigers in Europe.
“Rotterdam is the biggest
port in Europe and a key
gateway to the continent for
the supply chain, which is
why Tigers has been based
there for the past 20 years,”
said Shahar Ayash, Managing
Director – UK and Europe,
Tigers.
“The mega hub will be
an advanced omni-channel
fulfi lment centre and Tigers’
biggest single operation
in Europe, which is being
built with longevity and
sustainability in mind.
“E-commerce has also
been a huge factor in this
development, with 70% of
orders processed in Rotterdam
related to the e-commerce
sector, which is set for even
further future growth.”
The new mega hub will
replace Tigers’ existing
Rotterdam facility and will
comprise more than 550,000
square feet, have 60,000
pallet positions and 550,000
bin locations.
The hub is also being
built with solar panels on the
roof to create a sustainable
structure and will be
equipped with Tigers’ Cloudbased
SmartHub:Connect
technology.
“The new facility will be
just ten kilometres from the
Port of Rotterdam, with close
proximity to major road
and rail networks, making
it strategically located for
both fi rst and fi nal mile,”
commented Ryan Balic,
Regional Director Sales,
Europe, Tigers.
“The mega hub will
allow our customers to
accommodate organic growth
and benefi t from state-ofthe
art facilities, including
enhanced security features,
multiple storage and picking
processes, dedicated B2C
returns and VAS processing
areas, and an increased
number of conveyor scanpack
stations.”
This mega hub is part of
an ongoing global expansion
plan for Hong Kongheadquartered
Tigers.

AA Cargo bucking the trend?
It’s not all doom in the freight
sector. American Airlines
Cargo recently launched the
fi rst phase of its single largest
investment to date, with the
roll-out of a new cargo end-toend
management system on
October 1.
The overhaul replaces the
majority of the organisation’s
legacy technology, narrowing
90 systems down to fewer
than ten. Not only will the
new tools bring an upgraded
customer experience, the
evolution of the investment
is seen as a part of a broader
initiative to modernise the
entire business.
The technology transition
will impact more than 8,000
team members in cargo and
airport operations, together
with more than 30,000
customers. A team of more
than 700 people across 300
locations globally and more
than 150 business, technology,
and vendor partners at the
airline’s new headquarters in
Fort Worth, Texas, supported
the implementation process.
