Croatia appoints
Motorola partners
e Croatian Ministry of the Interior has
awarded a tender to King ICT and Micro-Link
(partners of Motorola Solutions) to expand the
nationwide MUPnet TETRA two-way radio
network and integrate it with the country’s civil
protection organisations.
Motorola Solutions will supply TETRA
technology, while King ICT and Micro-Link
will contribute their services and third-party
equipment. Under the contract’s framework,
Motorola will provide network and subscriber
equipment expansions for MUPnet. As
part of the network extension, the Croatian
Civil Protection Directorate, which manages
operational forces such as the re brigades, as
well as rescue and 112 services, will become
one of MUPnet’s key user group organisations
and will be able to seamlessly communicate
with the organisations that are already on the
TETRA network.
AFRICA
ASTRO 25 deployed
in Addis Ababa
e Ethiopia Electric Utility (EEU) has
deployed an ASTRO 25 land mobile radio
(LMR) system in the region of greater Addis
Ababa, to help the safety of grid operations
and maintenance sta and provide a better
service to its millions of customers.
e system will support the mission-critical
communications needs of EEU teams, and
hundreds of users from service to repair and
restoration teams. Some of the network’s
most important sites are powered by a hybrid
electric/solar panel system, and include a
back-up energy solution. e ASTRO 25
system, which uses point-to-point microwave
links for backhaul, is designed to allow the
EEU to extend its coverage to other regions.
“As a grid operator, two of our major
concerns are the safety of our employees and
the service we provide our customers,” said
Shiferae Telila, the EEU’s CEO.
L3Harris supplies P25
Phase 2 to Utah
L3Harris Technologies will replace the Utah
Communications Authority (UCA)’s legacy
radio system with a state-wide public safety
P25 Phase 2 digital two-way radio system.
e new system will support upgraded
P25 radios and Symphony command centre
dispatch consoles, which are expected to enable
multiple mission-critical user groups – such
as law enforcement, public safety, utilities and
public works – to communicate in a more
seamless way via voice and data. e new
network will have double the capacity of the
previous one and o er greater range, while also
streamlining UCA’s access to FirstNet.
UCA manages 911 and inter-agency
communications across Utah. L3Harris Public
Safety and Professional Communications is
a supplier of communications systems and
equipment for public safety, federal, utility,
commercial and transportation markets.
