A major new scheme to help
people and manufacturers
embrace the digital
revolution has
been launched in
the West
Midlands, with
the aim of
protecting
thousands of ‘at

impact of Covid-
19. The new
Foundation Certi cate in
Digital Skills, funded by the West
Midlands Combined Authority
(WMCA), will give individuals access
to a series of online masterclasses
that will equip them with the
fundamentals of Digital
Transformation, Arti cial Intelligence,
Robotic Process Automation and

Liberty Steel Group and Shiftec,
two members of the sustainable
industry leader GFG Alliance, are
partnering to deploy sensor
technology with the potential to
enhance safety and
improve ef ciency at
industrial sites (left).
Under the two-year
project, Shiftec will
test and pilot its
Aquila system,
which uses a
technology similar to
GPS to track the
position of people,
equipment and vehicles in
factories in real time. It reduces
workplace accidents, enhances
ef ciency of movement and –
integrated with Shiftec’s high speed,
long-range network solution – can
allow remote equipment operation.

Open House on 20, 21 and 22
October 2020 at its showroom
located at 12 Merlin Centre,

to hold an Open House, subject to
the strict rules stipulated see
below.
“All of the machine
demonstrations that were originally
planned for MACH 2020 will be set
up on the nine vertical machining
centres and three CNC lathes that
are currently on show.”
The Open House will mark the
of cial launch of a new range of
Hurco driven-tool CNC lathes,
represented by the TM8Mi, which
make one-off/small volume
production “an attractive prospect”.
Attendance is strictly by
appointment only and a maximum

attend, including one sales
engineer and one applications
