FORKLIFTS & LIFTING EQUIPMENT – BATTERY MANAGEMENT
This communication channel is established
quickly and automatically on power-up,
without need for driver intervention.
Information delivered includes real-time
state of charge, and alarms and alerts
for the following battery parameters:
temperature, electrolyte level, low state of
charge and cell unbalance.
The dashboard’s primary screen
features a prominent graph showing
state of charge, remaining work time
and battery temperature. Battery
warnings relating to ‘go-to-charge’ –
accompanied by a buzzer – and high
battery temperature, electrolyte level or
unbalance are also visible. Also displayed
are the user ID, worked time, and the
number of Ah that have been re-injected
into the battery by vehicle braking.
“The Truck iQ
smart battery
dashboard is
di erent, because it presents truck and
battery information in real time to the
driver on the job, in an easily understood
format. This helps to prevent truck
misuse, while improving battery utilisation
and service life. It also boosts e ciency
and energy management,” comments
Orjan Eriksson, commercial application
manager for monitoring and solutions at
EnerSys EMEA. “In summary, the Truck
iQ smart battery dashboard allows each
vehicle driver to make his own contribution
to the power e ciency and operational
productivity improvements.”
Independent battery sales and service
supplier Ecobat Battery Technologies
(Ecobat Industrial) also o ers what it
says is e ective and e cient solutions
that provide the answers required by
customers. One example is its FULLlife
battery and charger care packages.
FULLlife is said to provide customers
with
real-world
bene ts
that enable them
to forecast monthly
expenditure and implement productive
solution.
Just as they are able to rent a forklift,
they can also rent their battery/charger
combination, complete with a service
package that covers day-to-day use and
maintenance (pictured, p18 and p20)
FULLlife packages are tailored to
suit individual company requirements,
but can include battery/charger
combinations as required by speci c
application, eet monitoring systems,
battery watering (including the water),
agreed reports on battery/charger eet
condition, cover for any size of eet, xed
weekly/monthly fees and priority service
call out.
Saddle up: manufacturers launch new electric forklifts
Doosan
Doosan has launched a new range of
three-wheel electric counterbalance
forklift trucks (pictured, left). The B15R-7
Series has three new models covering
a capacity range from 1.25 – 1.6 tonne.
The rm says that they are particularly well suited to the
exible needs of the small business. New features include a
smaller steering wheel and adjustable column for easier access
and greater driver comfort, an upgraded and more intuitive
instrument panel, and a USB port and 12V power jack for
operator convenience.
Hyster presented the J1.6XN three-wheel electric
counterbalance truck with a 48V lithium-ion battery, which
requires minimal maintenance, at the LogiMAT trade fair for
intralogistics in Stuttgart. “Lithium-ion battery-powered trucks
are increasingly being used as the power option for demanding
applications,” said Timo Antony, area business director for
Central Europe.
JCB has added to its Teletruk range with the launch of the JCB
30-19E (pictured, right). Until now, JCB’s Teletruks have been
powered by diesel and LPG and used predominantly in outdoor
applications. With the launch of the new electric model, the
Teletruk now becomes suited for a
wealth of tasks inside buildings, as
well as outside. Power is provided
by an 80V lead acid battery,
which is said to work a full eighthour
shift on a single charge.
The battery compartment is
positioned at the rear of the
truck and has been designed to
allow quick and easy battery changeover.
Jungheinrich has launched the ETV 216i – a reach truck with
standard built-in lithium-ion battery. The ETV 216i is said to
o er the operator more freedom of movement and perfect allround
visibility. It can stack loads weighing up to 1,600kg to a lift
height of 10.7 metres.
Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks has released the latest addition to
its electric range: EDiA EM. Building on the success of its 80V,
EDiA EX, this range of 1.4 to 2.0 tonne, 48V electrics has been
engineered to deliver manoeuvrability, power (performance)
and reliability.
