In May, the eyes of the ITS world will be turning their attention
to Portugal and specifically its capital – the port city of Lisbon
Doors will open for the 14th ITS
European Congress on 18th May. Event
organisers ERTICO, the European
Commission and the host city are
now making the final preparations for
a show that promises to bring the latest and
greatest ITS innovations together under one roof.
That one roof being the Lisbon Congress Centre,
located close to the river Tagus and the historic,
tourist-friendly Belem district of the city. But
there won’t be very much time for sightseeing
during the day as the event itself promises to
have plenty to keep delegates busy.
The organisers have revealed three mobility
solutions that will be demonstrated at the
congress, that give a taste of what to expect:
Traffic Technology International March/April 2020
www.TrafficTechnologyToday.com
Firstly a last-mile, electric, automated shuttle
will follow a circular route close to the river,
communicating with traffic signals along the
route to enable smoother, more efficient stops.
Also, 5G Mobix will demonstrate automated
vehicle (AV) mapping capabilities, detecting
changes between the road and map before
relaying it to the ITS centre to inform
approaching vehicles of newly identified
obstacles – such as roadworks. Thirdly, potential
C-ITS could have in improving AV road safety
will be the focus of a demo from C-Roads Spain.
With over 120 exhibitors from 50 countries and
2,000 participants, as well as a reputable list of
speakers booked, Lisbon will be the place to be
for the ITS world in May.
