MOBILE iPhone 11
Apple’s latest iterations
California’s best loved mobile manufacturer was at it again in September, releasing three new iPhones and a
new Apple Watch. Here’s what’s new for 2019
In case you’ve been on holiday,
living under a rock or just are
not as enthused by product
launches as you used to be
(and I completely sympathise),
here is the one word that has
dominated the nerd wire this
past month:
iPhone
at’s right, on the 10th
September this annum
Apple made the latest iPhone
announcement. is year,
continuing the theme of having
a colourful ‘value’ (and I use that
term very loosely) iPhone 11,
and a premium (iPhone 11 Pro)
device, also available in a larger,
‘Max’ version.
So what is there of note? As a
y by both devices saw updates
to its screen, chipset and camera
technology and the number of
lenses it utilises.
Before we get into the camera
improvements lets turn the
aesthetics.
Design
When it works, it works. e
design of the latest iPhones are
near identical to those of the ‘X’
devices before it. New colours
may well make the devices more
appealing to consumers but, in
both instances the introduction
of another lens gives the
design enough of a refresh to
be distinguished as the new
iPhone.
Improvements to the screen
were announced with the iPhone
11 getting a 6.1 inch Liquid
Retina display and the iPhone
11 Pro and 11 Pro Max receiving
a Super Retina XDR, custom
designed OLED panel capable
of up to 1,200 nits of brightness
and a two million-to-one
contrast ratio.
One of the more practical
improvements came in the form
of added durability. All three
devices contain ‘the toughest
glass ever in a smartphone’
according to Apple and each is

Snapper
All devices in the 2019 iPhone
range have had another lens
added to the mix, leaving the
count on the iPhone 11 Pro
devices up to three and the basic
iPhone 11 model on two.
For the Pro devices, the
camera module consists of
one telephoto, one wide and
an ultra-wide snapper, capable
of recording video in 4K
with dynamic range, video
stabilisation.
As for the iPhone 11, the
camera module now boasts a
wide and ultra-wide lens with
both devices capable of portrait
modes and audio zoom on
video recording that focuses the
microphones on the subject in
the screen.
Chipset
Updates were also to be had for
Apple’s very own A13 Bionic
Chipset, seeing a 20 percent
faster CPU and GPU on the
A12 for both devices. e
Californian giant made a point
to say that the new chipsets
are built for data analysis and
machine learning, delivering
over one trillion operations per
second.
One miss for the new devices
was a 5G variant. Although it
was not expected for at least
another year, the lack of 5G
compatibility is a miss given that
Apple’s biggest competitors, the
likes of Samsung and Huawei,
already have 5G enabled devices
in the market.
