New Hurco boosts Wall Colmonoy
Limited’s machining capabilities
Wall Colmonoy Limited has
expanded its capabilities with a new
Hurco VMX60Ui 5-axis CNC milling
machine.
The new machine allows for
5-axis milling of complex shapes
and geometries in various hardwearing,
corrosion resistant alloys
including Wallex cobalt-based and
Colmonoy nickel-based super alloys,
ranging from 20 – 65 HRC.
Typical end applications and
industries, for such precisely
machined components include,
homogenising pumps and valves,
food and pharmaceuticals, oil and
gas, motorsport, aerospace, glass
mould repairs, and others.
The investment gives new
capabilities, improving on current
3-axis machining methods and
building on current expertise of
producing precisely engineered parts
through turning, milling, grinding,
honing and wire EDM.
This additional capability can be
utilised for rapid prototyping, tooling,
low and high-volume manufacture of
components with complex
geometries. The VMX60Ui boasts
maximum working area of Ø500mm
and a maximum table load of
400kg. The CNC has a trunnion style
machining centre.
Fanuc adds new digital service
to its offering in Europe
Fanuc has added a new digital
service Fanuc Assisted Reality (FAR)
to its service offering in Europe.
The company said it will help
support customers as fully as
possible, even in times of travel
restrictions and distance rules.
Fanuc expects FAR to improve
service even further.
The firm has more than 1600
employees in Europe, over 40%
work in service to provide “lifetime
maintenance” or unlimited service
on any Fanuc product as long as
customers want to use it.
Fanuc said as 99.98% of all
spare parts are available throughout
Europe, it takes less than 28 hours
on average from the time the
customer calls to the end of the
repair, even for CNC or machines
older than 20 years. Fanuc Europe
aims to reduce to less than 24
hours in the medium term.
The FAR app uses augmented
reality (AR). More specifically, with
the help of FAR, two or more
participants in a conversation can
exchange images and videos via a
secure data connection and add
written annotations to them in realtime.
Fanuc’s headquarters in
Japan, as well as other global
subsidiaries, are looking to use FAR.

The Manufacturing Technology Centre’s (MTC) Liverpool facility has launched a
new competition aimed at helping businesses in the Liverpool City Region access
funds to develop new manufacturing processes and bring cutting-edge products to
market.
The Win3 competition, launched through the MTC’s Digital
Manufacturing Accelerator (DMA) programme, will give successful
companies up to 75% of matched funding for innovative projects which
demonstrate the latest manufacturing advances.
The competition is open to industrial end-users, supply chain
companies and technology or service providers who are based, or have
significant operations, in the Liverpool City Region, or who plan to work
with an organisation in the region. Projects are expected to start within
eight weeks of funding being awarded and not last longer than six
months. Applications close on Friday, 9 April, 2021.
GA Sliding Head - part of Pryme Group - has appointed Kerry Devlin as operations
director following the retirement of operations manager, Jim Stuart.
With more than a decade’s experience in industrial engineering, she
has worked internationally in both the Far East and United States for
some of the world’s leading oilfield services businesses.
A graduate of the University of Strathclyde with an honours degree in
product design engineering, Glasgow-born Devlin has risen through the
ranks from working in a machine shop, to plant, operations and project
management roles – gaining key expertise in the manufacture of
completion tools and support systems.
GA Sliding Head offers a range of CNC machining services along with
fabrication and assembly.
Most recently, Devlin was global lean leader for US oilfield equipment
and service firm, Weatherford. Based in Houston, she had responsibility
for project managing international plant consolidations – before returning
to Scotland in December 2020.
Devlin said: “I’m pleased to have joined the team at GA Engineering
Sliding Head and look forward to working closely with my new colleagues
here in Dundee and across the rest of the group to build upon the
incredible potential we have.
“The company has cemented its reputation by successfully diversifying
into new sectors, including areas such as aerospace and medical
equipment, something that I’m sure will continue to be an important
focus as the wider business environment recovers.”
