In brief
Double block and bleed valve innovation
EP Series Pro-Bloc valves, manufactured in Barnstaple, Devon has a
double block and bleed function and consists of two separate isolating
balls and one vent in a single unit. The unit conforms to EEMUA 182
and is also available in a block and bleed arrangement. The single-piece
construction is said to o er space- and weight-saving bene ts, too.
Schae er improves shaft
alignment o ering
The misalignment of shafts is a big problem
for the operation of all types of machines. In
such conditions, the temperature in couplings,
bearings, grease, and motors increases and
the machine or vehicle consumes more energy.
Ultimately, the additional friction leads to
signi cantly increased wear, possibly even
causing shaft fractures and the total failure of
systems and machines.
The LASER-EQUILIGN2 system from
Schae er is claimed to enable the precise
alignment of shafts and a signi cant reduction
in work for maintenance technicians. This
alignment tool can be deployed quickly and
precisely due to its single laser technology,
says Schae er. In contrast to the conventional
double laser technology in which two laser/
sensor units must be aligned with each other,
only one laser/sensor unit and a re ector are
used in single laser technology.
The non-verbal user interface with 8” TFT
display and capacitive touchscreen (which
means it can be operated wearing suitable
gloves) enables intuitive, user-friendly
operation, it adds. Laser technology is one of
the most precise methods for correctly aligning
rotating shafts and thus avoiding unplanned
machine downtime. Approximately 60 percent
of all unplanned downtime is due to imbalance
and misalignment, Schae er says.
Yokogawa IEC 61511 Exaquantum
software enhances plant safety A major upgrade has been issued for the
Yokogawa Exaquantum Safety Function
Monitoring (SFM) software, an OpreX asset
operations and optimisation solution that helps
identify whether actual operating performance
meets safety design targets. SFM R3.35
provides continuous monitoring and evaluation
of safety data to highlight deviations or failures
in plant safety system performance.
Already in use across the globe in industries
such as oil & gas, SFM collects all safety-related
data to track and analyse key performance
metrics, including safety instrumented function
(SIF) activations and maintenance (proof
testing), independent protection layers (IPLs),
and initiating causes and overrides.
This new version now supports the
International Electrotechnical Commission
(IEC) 61511 standard for functional safety in
the process industry that covers the design and
management requirements for SISs throughout
the entire safety life cycle.
SFM R3.35 employs a cause & e ect matrix to
quickly verify the logic of SIF activations and nal
element (valves, vents, actuators) actuations to
see if they match their con gured or intended
safety design, to comply with IEC 61511.
Safety con guration data for layers of
protection analysis (LOPA) using PHA-Pro (a
third-party software solution from Sphera) can
be used to generate an initial SFM con guration
le. A PHA-Pro template exports information
from the LOPA in a format that can be imported.
Consumable solutions company
BAXT has launched the TP10
workspace protection product
to protect high traffi c walkways
in a wide variety of industrial
environments, including
warehouses and manufacturing
premises. Benefi ting from BAXT’s
innovative 5-layer construction,
TP10-protected areas can last up to
12 months before requiring a new
application. The walkway can be
quickly and easily cleaned when
heavily soiled by simply removing
one of the fi ve available layers.
EXAIR’s new 3 NPT Heavy Duty
Threaded Line Vac is an in-line
conveyor that transports high
volumes of material through
ordinary pipe. The conveyor ejects
a small amount of compressed
air through directed nozzles to
produce a vacuum on one end and
high output fl ows on the other with
instantaneous response. Utilising
a pressure regulator, conveyance
rate can be fi nely tuned to suit the
needs of the application. There are
no moving parts to wear out, and
no electricity is required. Seven
sizes are available, from 3/4 NPT
to 3 NPT to fi t standard pipe and
coupling sizes. Additional models
made from aluminium, 303SS and
316SS are also available in eleven
sizes, with or without threads.
Sanitary fl ange models from 1-1/2
inch to 3-inch are also available.
The Crosby Straightpoint
ChainSafe protects cargo during
transport by measuring the load
on lashing, load securement,
tie-downs and chain sling legs.
With a range of 100m, the
device connects using Bluetooth
to Crosby Straightpoint’s free
Android or iOS HHP App, which
has real-time overload alerts
and reporting for later analysis.
ChainSafe is designed in particular
for transportation and construction
industries. It is equipped with a
range of optional chain fi ttings
such as hooks, lashing and
chain shorteners from Gunnebo
Industries and Crosby. Load limit
is 4t.
