GREEN
PRODUCTION INITIATIVE
Astronics is soon to introduce Avenir,
an all-in-one VIP CMS and IFEC system
offering a 300Gbps bandwidth, which the
company believes to be five times more
bandwidth than other systems. Avenir is
designed to enable executive jet owners
to conduct video conferences and phone
calls, stream shows, monitor camera
feeds, adjust the lighting and music
– all without throughput concerns.
The system is 4K ready, 8K capable
and designed to reduce wiring by up
to 50% compared to legacy systems,
reducing overall weight and fuel cost.
Additionally, the system is designed
to be future-proofed for years to come,
and to be quick to install. Astronics
also notes there are “infinite” levels of
customisation, supporting personalised
cabin environments and languages.
HighTech Finishing has enhanced
the green initiative programme
at its production centre in
Houston, Texas. The company
received a permit from the City
of Houston allowing it to
discharge clean, treated rinse
water directly into the city’s
waste treatment system.
The Source Reduction/Waste
Minimization Plan is the result
of an upgrade to HighTech Finishing’s in-house water
treatment system, which uses specific chemicals and
filtration processes to remove contaminants before
entering the city’s water system. Testing is performed
multiple times a day at an in-house laboratory to ensure
effluent is within permitted limits established by the
City of Houston Industrial Wastewater Division.
“We owe it to our employees, the surrounding
community and the business aviation industry to
ensure we are making positive contributions to the
environment,” says Rick Niefield, vice president of sales
and marketing. “The initiative reflects our concern
for the community and environment surrounding our
production centre. We are sensitive to the effects on
our local community operating a metal finishing and
electroplating business for luxury aviation parts.”
The green initiative extends to all areas of the
company to lessen its environmental footprint. Efforts
include recycling waste materials, reclamation of metals
and advanced water and air filtration systems.
MANAGEMENT
APPOINTMENTS
Leather supplier Garrett Leather says
a couple of recent management changes
reflect an increased presence in the
aviation community.
Jennifer Coleman was recently
promoted to vice president of aviation
sales. During her tenure as aviation
sales director, Garrett Leather says it
experienced unprecedented growth
in the aircraft market and achieved
record sales. Coleman now oversees
the Transportation Client Services team
and continues to support the company’s
presence in
the aviation
community.
Meanwhile,
Rich Ruggeri has
joined as director
of business
aviation. In
his prior role,
Ruggeri was
vice president
and co-owner
of Scott Group
Studio, and
continues to
serve on the
company’s board
of directors.
This year F/List is celebrating its 70th
anniversary. Since its foundation in
1950, F/List has evolved from a small
joinery into a renowned provider of
high-end interiors for business jets,
yachts and residences.
F/List began as a manufacturer of
interior fittings for residences. It took
on its first yacht project in the late
1990s and quickly gained expertise
in the art of lightweight, high-tech
materials that were built to withstand
the elements. From there, it was a
logical move into aviation interiors. By
2019, more than 1,500 business jets
were stamped with F/List’s signature.
Headquartered in Austria, the
company has a presence at eight
locations in Europe, the Middle East
and the Americas. The UK location at
Biggin Hill Airport is only the latest in
a series of recently opened or enlarged
international subsidiaries. This
year, efforts will continue to offer a
worldwide network of on-site support
and aftermarket services right where
customers need them.
In this jubilee year, change is in
the air – not only when it comes
to internationalisation. F/List also
launched a company-wide process to
deal extensively with future-related
topics and new technologies.
The goal is to continue to play a
leading role in the industry as an
innovator, so as to be able to offer
excellent services to customers.
To support
its green initiative,
HighTech Finishing
has also increased
training efforts
for employees
